we started raw today
oh my being a veggie chopping up frozen chicken mince isnt pleasant lol. Tia was on Eden kibble, it is a good kibble but i wanted to do whats best for her and i think raw is the way to go. I ordered loads from Berriwoods pre packed minces around 4 % bone starting with chicken for 3 days then ill try the chicken and tripe. Tia doesn't usually eat during the day so she was a bit reluctant to come to her bowl this morning and as im feeding her 560g over three meals I want to get her meal times right to suit the family. She munched it all up and her midday meal but she has been asleep nearly all day. If you have any tips etc im all open to it. Right im off to ebay to buy a ton of gloves as im not handling that stuff again !!

Well done on the switch to raw. Bacchus has been on raw ( Natural Instinct ) since November last year. I just thaw out the 1 kilo tub and feed him 200gr in the morning and 250gr in the evening. It would be much easier to feed him 250gr twice daily as I wouldn't have to weigh it, just give him a quarter of a tub twice daily but I find he puts on weight if he gets 500gr per day. Because it is already minced I just spoon it into his bowl. No handling required. Twice a week I give him raw meaty bones ( chicken carcasses, lamb necks, lamb spines with ribs attached, also available from Natural Instinct) as a substitute for his evening meal.

Re: we started raw today
we have started on berriwoods as to be honest its fairly cheap as she is 5 mths old shes on around 6% of her body weight . Natural instincts look good but nearly double the price but those tubs are handy . I chose the frozen raw blocks for the first month until i find a good supplier . I know the one im getting isnt the best but its not the worst either . Im just hoping i get her ratios correct .
does anyone know with her being a cross the best way to get her ideal weight ?

Re: we started raw today
I would think two meals would be fine now that's what Ledger has unless I'm working late (dog walker used to put down kibble but not going to ask her to rummage through my fridge to feed his mince) then he just has one meal a day before I go to work which uses up the bigger of the chicken portions that I get from DAF. Their frozen mince is in packs of his daily allowance so I defrost and scoop directly out of the bag so don't handle myself
I would stick with plain chicken for at least a week and introduce richer meats slowly, Ledger loves tripe but it goes straight through him if I give the usual portion of mince I have to halve it and add a duck wing or similar to keep his poop firm

Re: we started raw today
Two meals sounds about right for her age. Do you know what she is cross with or did you see her parents? That would make it easier to try and work out her possible adult weight.
Bane is also cross so we are not sure what weight he will settle at so we adjust according to how he looks. We were feeding about 5-6% of his weight and have slowly been reducing it as we notice he is getting to look a bit round...if he then gets skinny we up it a bit.
Hope it goes well for you We switched a while back and we're all loving it! Less poo, not smelly, less shedding, super shiny and sparkling teeth!

Re: we started raw today
hi mum is a lovely staff and dad is a black lab and mum is a big girl .. Tia wouldn't eat until this evening again so i changed the mince to chicken and tripe and she ate it . she would turn away at the chicken ! the chicken doesn't really smell so maybe the one I have isnt great and i should try another company. She is definitely calmer on this diet..

Re: we started raw today
hi just a top up on my post . Tia is now on chicken, turkey, tripe and lamb minces with added chunks of chicken and wings as she really isnt keen on the chicken mince and will eat around it when hidden lol . i must say the lamb makes her farts smell bad !! But she is so much more alert and responsive now, her teeth are an amazing white and poos are so much easier to clean up. so week 2 is over i will be trying beef mince and a bit of heart this week and if all goes well will try either fish or an offal ...

Re: we started raw today
It all seems so complicated - I know Milo would love raw but...........
I've looked at Natural Instinct and am I right in that they say a puppy (he's 16kg near enough) needs 800-960grams per day!! Seems a lot?

Re: we started raw today
pups need between 5 and 10% of their body weight depending on age . I use this link http://www.raw2paw.co.uk/how-much-to-feed/4558120367 . its actually not that much spread over three to four meals and being a vegetarian it was harder faffing about before i went raw then doing it .
