dog aggresssion or not
hi need some advice please......we have got two staffies , one is a girl which is 3 years old and she is great. Then we had a new addition which is another staffy about 2 months ago off a couple who couldn't cope with him. He is nearly 6 months old now and he gets on great with our other dog. The problem is when he meets other dogs he goes to say hello then sniffs them and everything fine ,then when we move him away he will start barking and growling on his back legs trying to get to them.is this dog aggression?
Thanks sam
Thanks sam

Re: dog aggresssion or not
Hi sam, doesn't sound like dog aggression to me sounds, i would say try luring him away with food or a toy or whatever he likes, this will end the meet on a positive rather than a negative, hope this helps
Re: dog aggresssion or not
I wouldn't think this is aggression in a dog as young as 6 months old. Take a look through the link below which explains a dogs body language and signs to look for:

You may want to try a few things when he meets other dogs out on walks to keep him calm and focused on you. One good tip is to try the Watch Me command and get him to sit and watch you using a treat if needed while another dog approaches him.
Does this happen with every dog you meet or it is with certain breeds ?
Are the dogs on a lead or off loose when he meets them ?
Just try a quick hello to the other dog then try to distract him with a toy, maybe a squeaky toy would work. If you take away the opportunity for the barking and growling he may get out of the habit of doing it.

Hiya! Sounds like frustration to me, agree with Kattie and Kathy that lure should be used and if you could give more info about his body language when sniffing/being sniffed before the outbursts?

Re: dog aggresssion or not
thanks for the advice I will try the toy/treats. I did think it could be frustration. He has played lovely with a couple of dogs. its not all dogs he meets and sometimes its dogs on lead or when the dogs is off lead running off. When he does meet other dogs his tail is up and neck high until he sniff the other dog bits.

I can only echo the above. If he likes treats/squeeky toys/balls/sticks they can all be used to lure him.

Sounds like he just wants to play with the other dog and gets frustrated with only saying hello.
Do you stroke all the dogs he meets ? This sends a great sign to your dog.
