Asking to go out
Banes is practically house trained, he will go to the back door, normally I see him and let him out BUT if I don't see him he will peein the front room. I'm stuck for ideas,

Re: Asking to go out
He's almost five months, we had been out for a long walk, been back about 30 mins, walked in lounge and started peeing, I shouted stop then let him out.

Re: Asking to go out
Try to take her out more and slow down when you are walking to give her a sniff around.
Our Lucy is also 5 months. We walk her around the garden every hour; stopping in the correct place and then we say "be quick" she never fails to have a wee even if it is a teeny weeny one. As for her poo's we take her at the side of the house where it is paved; then stand still until she does her business

Re: Asking to go out
Thistle never gave me a verbal cue to be let out, just stood by the door, because I was pre empting her toileting, so I watched her and when she stood by the door, rather than let her out straight away I waited until she whined, then I let her out, she will stand by the door and whine now, so if I don't see her at least I can hear her. Obviously the dog has to whine, or bark for it to work

Re: Asking to go out
Have to say Thistle peed on the rug right in front of my face a few nights ago, she looked as shocked as I did, I put it down to her season, I just ignored it and cleaned it up.

Re: Asking to go out
Mika's pretty good she starts walking in circles and sniffing the floor when she needs, I let her out quite regularly though and we haven't had an accident for a few weeks now . She doesn't whine or bark when she needs out though, it would definitely be quite handy if she did. Best thing to do Rhia is just get into a little routine of getting up and letting her out regularly:)

Re: Asking to go out
When Zeus was that age, I let him out every hour or so and kept saying "go toilet".. if he did it, he got alot of praise, if he didnt, I'd ignore him and let him back in. Sooner or later, he got the idea that he would get praise/a treat when he would pee/poo outside and be ignored when he done it inside. Don't tell Bane off if he does it inside, just ignore him and clean it up.
In terms of telling me now when Zeus needs to go, he goes to the back door and stands there, most of the time we see him and let him out. When we don't, he comes running back in the living room, pesters us and goes back to the door, which is another sign he needs to go. Sometimes, he also whines at the door to let him out.
Be patient, if you stick at it, Bane will get the idea but five months old is still early, he'll have the odd accident now and again, its all about how you react to it and stay consistent.

Re: Asking to go out
We put a jingly keyring on our back door key that is left in the door, when we took him out we jingled it and said "toilet time, lets go toilet" etc and after about a week or so he learnt that if he needed to go out, he had to jingle the keyring to let us know! You can hear it upstairs too so it's really helped

Re: Asking to go out
I brought a bell but he ain't interested, I been opening the back door slightly but not enough for him to go out and he's starting to make slight noises then I let him out, he did pee again in house the other day, I ran towards him and he stopped but carried on running to the back door when he finished going outside it praised him LOADS, suppose I just have to remind myself he's only a baby still.
