Parvovirus Empty Parvovirus

Post by Rhia Sat Jan 18 2014, 23:34

Just found out my friends dog has parvo. It hasn't been near banes, and banes has had his jab. But I have read parvo can still harm banes even though he has had had his jabs as dogs under one year still have a lower immune system. Am I right to worry incase he comes into contact with it when he's out?

From what I have been seeing on Parvo Alert (Twitter/Facebook feeds) vaccinated pups are still getting different strains.

Thats not to say worry but certainly be aware check the feeds out as they will highlight areas, there was a bit of an outbreak here a few months back all the vets had posters in the window highlighting the symptoms to look for

I kept Ledger on lead as he will forage, eat grass and whatever he can get away with so I wanted to keep him in view where other owners may not have picked up after their dogs

There's a lot of awareness of parvo here, so the general rule is do not let your pup onto public ground (driveways, front lawns, or out walking) or mix with other dogs until 2 weeks after their 3rd jab (which is done at 14-16wks here). The risk seems very high, or we're just very aware over here.

Completely agree, please contact your vet if you have any concerns about Parvo, it can be quite nasty if your dog gets it.

Latest up date, it's not parvo it's a stomache bug with symptoms of parvo. Not much better I know but not as life threatening. Thanks for the advice though, I now know what to do if I here of it going round xx
