A few things about lexi ive been wondering about
Ive Had lexi for nearly 9 months now and ive noticed a few things about her behaviour , she doesn't bite as such but likes to hold your finger in her mouth and almost seems like shes suckling on it , shes also got a thing against her tail she continually chases it and she spends a lot of time actually chewing on it. has anyone else had these issues with their staffy , im concerned shes maybe been separated from her mother early as we got her from a family who couldn't commit to her and theres no way to check
she also seems to need a comforter which is her fleece pullover which settles her when its on

Re: A few things about lexi ive been wondering about
the biting/no biting thing sounds like mouthing, its a way of playing. if your happy, and you both know when to stop with it, then thats ok, just keep an eye and make sure she doesnt do it around children/people she doesnt know, it can scare some people. if me and Lola have a big play fight, it takes a couple of minutes before she'll start mouthing, and if it gets too much i call time and she'll stop, the only other people ive ever seen her mouth have been my brother, brother in law and my dad, and only after some serious tug/wrestle play.
with the tail chasing, its something that needs to be discouraged. it can become a problem, especially if she's chewing it (sores, open wounds, infections etc) if she starts chasing, try distracting her with a toy, just keep her mind off it.
hope this helps

Totally agree with Asa, Darcy loves to mouthe, play bite but also knows a firm enough' means stop, definitely try to distract the tail chain gas soon as she starts

With regards to the tail chasing, it definitely needs to be discouraged and distracted from as if it becomes an obsession it can be very distressing for you and Lexi.
The "suckling" thing - if Lexi was taken away from her mum early then it is probably a comfort thing for her (like a human baby with its dummy). I had a Dobie at 6 weeks old and to the end of her life she would settle on my bed and take up a lump of duvet between her paws and suck on it. It soothed her and didn't worry me (apart from when she ripped holes in the duvet when she got teeth! I spent a fortune on duvet covers) but she always a very clingy dog towards me. Her bite inhibition with regards to hands etc however was perfect, after the initial normal puppy stage.
