Best Extender Lead
Ron Dog has a walk at 6am on a football field so no lead normally needed as there is no cars around at that time and its away from the road and dark, however the other moring he decides to legit to the very top of the field where he saw a man walking on the field totally refused to come back to me and being that time of a morning dark and on my own I didnt want to head up towards the man in the dark bushes. Couldnt shout him too loudly incase people heard me and thought something was up, treats didnt work, clicker didnt work and walking the other way didnt work. Did not know what to do for the best.
I dont use his normal lead on the field because I like him having a good run/walk before I go to work we are out for about half hour free roaming. But use the lead to get to the field and off the field. So just thinking of a very long lead for him to have a good run but not running that far away that it puts us both in a sticky situation.
Only thing I can think of to stop this happening again is a extender lead but Ive never used one. Any ideas which one is best?? Line or ribbon? how long? any particular make?? Also I have just bought a Eezydog cujo shock absorber lead to go with his harness - anythoughts on these??
Other than that I want to put him in a Dr Who tardis and fast forward time so he isnt a 7mth ignorant lil man!!!!

I don't use an extendable lead, I'm never actually sure that they're safe with the power of a bull breed. I also find them quite difficult to hold on to if the dog pulls!
Have you though about using a 50' training line? You can get them from ebay for about £6 ish.

Re: Best Extender Lead
Thanks Caryll - Training line is a thought. Im worried how an extender would cope with Ronnie.

Re: Best Extender Lead
I find that the extendable ones, because they have a 'handle' rather than the loop, can be dragged out of your hand much easier than a loop.

Re: Best Extender Lead
They look good - I wonder if I can buy a miner's hat for him so I can see him in the dark his reflective harness isnt much good when there is nothing to reflect off.
Im gonna have to get a pouch like a kangaroo to put all the lead in when he is close by!
Its amazing how dark and lonely a field can feel even though there are house's all around it. Through the day and at night I feel safe there but that time of a morning there's no-one around and everyone is fast asleep, such a creepy time for dog walking.

Re: Best Extender Lead
I use an extender lead with Rocky and believe me he can pull when he wants to and he weights about 18 K. The one I use is a Flexi lead like the one in the link below:

We also have a training lead too like this one:

Re: Best Extender Lead
We use glow in the dark necklaces and wind them around the back of her harness so that she cant get at them. They are really effective and cheap too xx

Re: Best Extender Lead
Im loving the flashing collars - Ron Dog isnt so sure but Ive told him thats his punishment for playing hide & seek at stupid o'clock.
Glow in the dark necklace might be a good idea for me to wear so he can see me, not making excuses for the lil sod but I did wonder if he couldnt see me and thats one reason he didnt return - he did however find his way back to the car and waited next to that. I dont know if I was more scared that I couldnt see Ronnie or the fact there was a man hanging round in bushes.
We have just tried the shock absorber lead and its ok but he still pulls really bad its just easier on my shoulder socket.
Thank you everyone so far for your input we will let you know what we are buying

Re: Best Extender Lead
Don't use extending leads here either, just have a 50' training lead in bright yellow
