Do you think it's the dog?
Hi All , appreciate any advice, experience that you may be able to give me
My daughter has just turned 10 years old and has always suffered with eczema
Mainly in the body creases (arms, back of legs, neck) but in the last 4 weeks it has spread to every part of her body in a vicious way. So my question is could it be Romeo, aged 8mths?
So when we visited Romeo before buying him (twice) when we left pretty quickly her eczema came out bad but like on her face you could see blotches and we new that she had a reaction to him/7 other pups but after a couple of hours this went away.
So we've had Romeo for 5mths but only in the last month has she taken really bad. Been to the Docs have had loads of new creams etc but it just seems out of control. She spent a week away from the house on a school trip and although she didnt look great when she came back ( as we knew she wouldn't apply the creams all over her like we do) but 2 days back and we could say a massive improvement and thought everything was on the up only for her to be back for a compete week and things have taken to the worse again. We are going through her diet, looking at things that maybe she eaten more recently and has triggered it,changed washing powders etc. Our fear is that in our heart we feel it could be Romeo which would break all our hearts especially my daughter Tatum who breaks down in tears at the mere mention that if we discover her bad reaction is to Romeo that we would have to think of her welfare. I'm hoping that its something else and surely 5mths of him being with us that she never suffered like on those 1st couple of visits and its just being the normal eczema in patches.
So has anyone else had anything like this happen to their family and if so what remedies do/have you tried?
Any sort of advise would be greatly appreciated by us all and we pray that things calm down and we don't have to go to the last resort witch is just unthinkable.
Sorry to have gone on and hope we hear from some one that might shine a little light down for us

I am sorry I have no advice for you, I wish I did. As you mentioned if it where an allergy I would have thought it would have shown before but I have absolutely no experience at all.

I hope it isnt the dog. I expect you have done research to clarify whether eczema is aggravated buy dogs.
Why not take the dog out of the environment for a week and see if there is any improvement.

Re: Do you think it's the dog?
Has your daughter been to her GP for skin test to see what the cause of the eczema is ? it could be the dogs saliva causing a reaction on her skin.
My brother used to suffer from eczema when he was younger, cats used to set it off for him (as cats are licking themselves all over constantly the saliva caused the reaction for him) but it appears he has grown out of it now. He used to get cream from the doctor to put on and this helped.
The Aloe Vera gel should help to cool the irration for her but you really need to get to the cause of it if you can.

Re: Do you think it's the dog?
Thanks for the input so far everyone. Creams creams and creams is all we do. The steroid cream we use is great for her normal eczema when used but it does absolutely nothing to this new out break which makes us think there is something more to it than just the normal eczema. Ill check with the wife if any of said creams are an alovera based. Skin test in next on the list. We are also thinking with her age now the hormones are kicking in big style and it could just be to do with that as we seriously do not want to end up losing Romeo

Aloe vera cream is good but you need to sort it from the indside and the aloe vera i take is drunk every morning. It clears it from the indside.

Yes, you can buy bottles of aloe vera juice in Morrisons (well, in mine, anyway!) It's really nice!

Re: Do you think it's the dog?
i was terribly allergic to Ozz when we first got him asthma though not excema and even now if he touched me with his claws and its only his claws not his pads i come out in hives, fortunately i'm much better now and the hives i control with aloe vera gel which really clams it down. skin test is well worth it though i am sure there must be other things to help apart from creams, keep trying, i am sure you wnat to keep your family althogether

Re: Do you think it's the dog?
Hi all thought I'd update u on our progress
My daughter had a blood test and the results were in order of highest allegery concerns, peanuts, cat, dog, hamster. I had just started using peanut butter in kong toys so thought maybe his licking was giving her the problems.the peanut butter was binned a week passed,we also found the hamster a new home as again we had her around the same time as the reaction took hold. We waited with 2 weeks passing and no sign of things looking better:(
I then had a brain wave and thought maybe the rug in the front room was the cause (we have wooden flooring) I lifted the rug only to be meet with what I could describe as a pile of sand only for the wife to say that it must be the shake n vac I've being using. That's it she must be allergic to that as we also went through a stage of the dog having a rash on his belly as well. We removed the culprit and waited another week but no joy she was still suffering bad. Then late November Romeo jumped onto the sofa and laid down on me , when he got up he left his moulted hair on my white t shirt, this was the first time I'd seen any loose hair, that must be it the large blanket throws we have over the sofas must be full of tiny hairs that we have not noticed.they get cleaned every couple of months and as there had never being any sign of him moulting we never considered this. We had been keeping Tatum away from the dog but she was sitting on the sofas so obviously this was getting onto her clothes so while she was at school she constantly would have been in contact with dog hair 24/7 even when no where near him. So the throws were cleaned and she had her own special seat away from the throws. well what can I say what an amazing transformation we started to see within days. Where we had to coat her in creams from head to toe twice a day this has gone down to once a day now as her body is holding in the moisture the red patches are nearly invisible now and her skin is returning back to normal.she still suffers with eczema like she always had but in a more manageable way. So fingers crossed she improves each day and the cat n dog stay with us. I hope that maybe one day my story helps someone else. The last 3mths have being heartbreaking for all off us but we see the light at the end of the tunnel now and look forward to celebrating Romeos first Christmas with us. "Romeo get off the Xmas tree" oh no a new thread now needed:lol:
