I really rate them, and my vets tbh as when I claimed for Moo's x-rays last year my premium didn't go up much, I upped the insurance so she has life cover now, it pays 2k per condition per year up to 20k a year. And they do pay direct if your vets allow Xx

Animal Friends (about £20 a month) but that doesn't cover dental work so I might look for something different next year.

Pet insurance must have changed in the last few years because in my experience it was a waste of money. Premiums with pet plan were reasonable while my dogs were young and healthy (up to about age 5) then they rocketed to over £50 per month after that with £100 excess. We decided to bank the premiums instead.

Dempsey is 4 years old. I decided to take out insurance when he was 8 weeks old & I'm so glad I did! I have claimed over £5000, money I would not have been able to save by putting money aside each month.

Rocky is insured with Argos Pet Insurance on their Platinum policy which costs around £20 per month, very good cover and very quick at paying out on a claim - within a week of receiving the claim form.

So true. Plus you have the 3rd party liability cover.

I agree that pet insurance is absolutely vital.  I claimed £4,500 for my cat a couple of years ago with Petplan when she had an accident  and already Maisey's vet bill is over £1,500 and treatment not yet finished.  I am with Sainsbury's which is reasonable but there is a clause in the excess which means you have to pay the £75 excess plus 10% of the final bill - £7,500 per condition lifetime cover.

I was with Sainsburys & was very happy with them, but they then wanted to double my premium & introduce the extra percentage thing so I moved.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I couldn't see any point in starting another insurance thread.

I have been trawling the comparison sites today and have spotted a 'small' detail in the wording of these 'lifetime' policies. hypnotised
On the Go-Compare site their explanation of cover types states that with lifetime cover policies, the insurer can choose to withdraw cover at renewal.
Surely this means that if your dog develops an expensive long-term illness such as diabetes or cancer, they can just choose not to cover you in the second year leaving you to find a new policy with another insurer. And at this point you would have to declare the illness to your new insurer.

So my question is, is it worth paying the extra £25ish in annual premiums for lifetime cover over a time limited policy?

Always go for a lifetime policy but make sure to read the small print and shop around!

Finally took the plunge and insured Ozzie with Argos' Platinum Policy . They are giving 10% discount for new customers and I found a voucher code for 12 months for the price of 10. A total of £15.30 per month.
Reading around though I have heard that they may hike their prices at the first renewal, so I will have to shop around again to keep them honest.
