is my son right to do this
My son whos 17 is great with jesse who is 5 months..he has trained her the basics and tricks like when pretends to shot her she lies on her back.jesse even sleep at the bottom of his bed...but like to night after our walk with her she has a mad 10 mins or so..the thing is my young daughter had her pencil case and jesse took it..my son took the pencil case back and said no jesse barked two times loud my son move forward and jesse barked two times again..he then put her on her side untill she calm down which only took 5 seconds or so...i dont think this right thing to do..but he says ceaser millan does it..i know at dusk pups get bit mad and i think shes just testing him
Should he do this..his answer is you have be firm but kind..he relly loves her ..so what ye think guys

Re: is my son right to do this
I don't like Cesar Milan or his methods & I certainly don't like pinning down a young pup.
By all means use voice & body language to show disapproval, but pinning a pup down is more likely to cause fear & resentment.
A firm 'quiet' would have been better, in my opinion.

I agree with Caryll, I would not pin a dog down. A firm no or quiet and then ignore until they are quiet would be my method

Re: is my son right to do this
Also not a fan of Cesar Milan or his techniques. As Caryll stated, this is more likely to cause fear, or problems with handling in the future if anything. Differing tones of voice are enough to let a dog know the boundaries, and that is tones, not volume there's no need for shouting. For me a quiet "no" in a low tone is enough to get Biscuit to stop in her tracks.
But of course, Jess is still a youngster and may need some practise yet. It's great that your son is interested in training with her Guided in a more positive training direction he could work wonders with her in forms of obedience by the sounds of things!

Re: is my son right to do this
Thanks guys i agree...just one more thing. Sometimes if he wants her to stop mouthing at my younger kids my son would say no but she may not listen so he touches her on the neck to get her to listen and she stops he would then give a toy
When i say touch i mean a very light touch with two fingers..this one i m not sure about..thanks guy

Re: is my son right to do this
I suppose just touching her to get her attention shouldn't be a problem, as long as it's not a tap? but I would still go with verbal commands where ever possible

Agree with advice above, not keen on Ceaser Milans methods either.
Sounds like you are doing fine though
