jumping up and nipping people.
How can I stop my Staffy jumping up and scratching, nipping people when they enter our home, she gets so excited to see people. She really hurts sometimes and I am afraid someone might report her for 'biting'. She is only 6 months old.

Re: jumping up and nipping people.
hi from me and the boys
what do you do when people come in your house? do you have any sort of routine.
I'd suggest keeping her on lead when people come in, and if she tries to jump up you have control over her so gently lead her away from the person get her to sit and give her a treat.
Also ask people if she jumps up to turn around with their back to her, and to not fuss her until she's calm

Re: jumping up and nipping people.
Hi Sande
We did some training with our Baloo Boy
The trick is when someone comes in and your dog gets to excited to put him in a room with no in for two minutes.
Then let him out but do not fuss him at all for a further two minutes.
The dog will learn that if he jumps or nips that being locked away with no human to fuss him for two minutes will be the punishment.
Dogs hate nothing more than being left on there own.
This is a good way of teaching him. He will learn quickly as staffs are extremely cleaver ;-)
Best of luck
Iain and baloo.
