Hi my names Hanna,I live in north wales with my husband and 2 girls and we have recently added our beautiful Peppa (pig) to our family. She is 9 almost 10 weeks and we all love her to bits already! However we are having a few problems in some areas and was hoping for any hints and tips from some more experienced staffy owners. Her toilet training isn't going too bad,but there are some occasions we will spend ages outside with her waiting for her to wee or poo and she won't,but them as soon as we take her inside she will do it there. We just clean it up and put her back outside but is there any more we can do to encourage her to go outside? Also she hates being left alone anywhere and will cry and howl very loudly,I'm worried about complaints from the neighbours and hate hearing her so distressed so is there any tips to help with that too?
Thanks for reading,I am looking forward to getting to know everyone Smile

Hi Hanna! 10 weeks is very, very young as regards toilet training - I wouldn't worry - with lots of treats you'll get there Smile I remember standing outside with a bag of treats, waiting and waiting and waiting Rolling Eyes Chloe still pees with excitement sometimes and she's 17 months!

Hi Hanna, seems like you are going the right way with toilet training.
Its all about persistence and it will click don't worry. Praise her when she goes and she will get the hang of it.
As for the crying I haven't experienced this, but have you a crate for her that you could just put her in and leave a few secs at a time then return? then gradually increase the away times. Sometimes a crate is a safe haven and a nice safe place for them to go.
Why don't you come and introduce yourself and Peppa here,

it sounds like peppa is doing very well to me,she is only a baby and it will take a while to have control of her bladder/bowels,just keep taking her out after she has eaten/had a drink and every half an hour, when she goes toilet lots of praise and treats does wonders!she'll soon get there Smile

Regarding the toilet training what do you clean the area with when she has an accident inside ? Try cleaning the area with a non biological washing detergent.

For the separation anxiety try building up the alone time very gradually, leave a radio on quietly in the background on a talky station, radio 4 should be good for this.

Please let us know how you get on.

Are you using a word/phrase for toileting? When your out and she starts to do something, repeat it until she stops then reward. Keep doing this and then when you go out and say the phrase sghe will know what you want her to do Smile

I use a crate for toilet training and it really helped.
Taking Pebbles out to the garden and waiting a few minutes, if after 5 minutes she hasn't done anything then we take her back in and put her in the crate for a little while, then back out to the garden for another try.

If you don't use a crate, try restricting the area that Peppa has access to and watch her carefully for signs that she needs to go. Pebbles does quick motion circles and sniffs the floor with a busy face on!

If you catch her in the act, try stopping her with a sudden no and take her fast to the garden to see if she will finish there.
And of course like others have said, praise, treats and persistence.

Ah it's hard work raising a puppy. Wink

Hard work puppies are but so worth the while. Just be consistend and it will click. We used to take Tip out every hour during the day; let her sleep in the crate and then get up three times a night to let her out for toilet. Now at four months she sleeps through and tells us she wants to go out. We still have small accidents but we making progress.
