Flatulence!!! Empty Flatulence!!!

Post by Pebbles Sun Sep 22 2013, 21:50

OMG! Pebbles has it bad whistling
It really does turn your stomach when she breaks wind.and she does it A LOT! The whole of downstairs smells for ages.
She also has quite soft poos and i am wondering whether i should change her food. She is on Royal canin dry junior medium breed.
Any food of the same quality can be recommended by anyone to try to minimise this issue? Is this common with staffies? She also snores a lot Big Grin

Charcoal biscuits? Never heard of these. Where do you get them from Jan? Do you use them as a daily treat?

I get mine from pets at home they are black bone shape biscuits they are with the loose biscuits but I think you can buy them any pet shop. I give her one after breakfast and after dinner she thinks they are a treat for eating her food up

Hi cheers for the replies.

I was pondering over whether to switch her to JWB or possible Arden Grange, I'm just hesitating between which to try. JWB is a little cheaper but is it as good as AG ??? confused  This dog feeding business is more complicated than it seems Big Grin
On the practical side I can get JWB from the Range shop 5 minutes away from mine but have to travel further for AG or order it online at Zooplus (they do good deals i have found)

I would not be confident enough to feed raw. Wouldn't know where to start and would worry that she is getting all the nutrients she needs.

Darcy has been on both jwb & Arden grange (fussy moo) out of the two I'd say she preferred the jwb and did better on it too Big Grin

Sounds like a change of diet would be a good idea, gradually though.
I don't feed complete but Vinnie also has charcoal biscuits and it does help immensely with windy tums. Big Grin

Bacchus was very windy when small but it seems to have calmed down. Don't know if it's a natural progression or because I switched to Eden dried.
Still get a bit of wind if he is needing a poo but doesn't everyone:oops: Blushing
BTW. he didn't like the charcoal biscuits.

Regarding changing foods, the James Wellbeloved is probably more easily available to you as you can get it in Pets at Home and various other places. If you do decide to change over please to do so gradually over the course of a week - 10 days to avoid any upset tummy. Gradually replace the old food with the new and you should be OK just mix a little more in each day until you are just using the new food.

We have started the change over of food. Picked JWB lamb and rice puppy dry food and adding a little bit more each day while cutting back on the Royal Canin.
I am finding (from a human point of view Wink  ) the JWB food much drier and with much less smell to it than the RC. Seems less palatable to me but then if the dog eats it Big Grin
