How do you know?

How do you know if your dog is overweight? My brother and myself got a male puppy each from the same litter. His dog is a far bit smaller than mine, which I know is fine, but every time people see him they immediately say fat boy! I will post pic soon.

Dogs are like people they come in different shapes and sizes! Some puppies are fatter than others. I wouldn't worry about it, you can always ask your Vet.  

He looks okay to me in the pics  

Thankyou He is 12 weeks and due to go to the vet for vacc so Ill ask them

He doesn't look drastically overweight to me, they can vary in size and shape

He looks fine to me, I'm sure your vet will let you know if he's overweight, let us know how you get on

He does not look overweight to me but by all means ask the vet. Puppies are such busy little creatures that they burn lots of energy.

pups are different, as they tend to go through pudgy then skinny phases.

But an adult should have a very definite waist and tuck up at the belly, and you should be able to see the ribs or feel them without putting pressure on (personal choice of how lean you keep them)

Looks fine to me,my girls mum use to see broxi was chubby but after a few weeks he grew into it,dont worrie to much,keep giving your dog the right amount of food and exercise and let him grow

Looks fine to me but I prefer to err on the chubbier side rather than undernourished when they are very young and developing. Having said that, it's a fine line.

He looks fine to me too, but a cutie at that!

They grow in weird little spurts our pups .. one day all chubby, then all legs, then the too big ears and suddenly they look chubby again! As long as they are eating well, are happy and being active it is all normal

If you want to check as he gets bigger though, an easy way to check for the right shape is to place your elbows by their front shoulders and place your arms straight out to their back legs - there should be about a gap between fur and your arms in the waist and the ribs should be able to be felt.

Awww what a cute little dog :)He grew up to be absolutely gorgeous!

Henry went to the vets today for his vacc, he is now 9 kilos so a fair bit bigger than his brother who is 7.5 kilos. But vet said he is tubby but that's ok for a 3 month old dog

Glad went well at the vets he looks fine to me, I love a chunky pup and he will change so nothing to worry about.
