Dog Park Impressions Empty Dog Park Impressions

I finally took him out to the park to meet with other dogs. (11 week old pup) and he is the only "pup" there. I was nervous at first but after a minute he settles in and the other dogs seem to sort of pick up on his size and play lightly with him.

Though I bumped into this owner with a Labrador who had tonnes of energy and was extremely curious lol, at first I thought it was cute and all though he started to bark and my pup whimpered away. Now I know it was probably just a greeting of some sort since he stopped after 5 minutes.

Just wondering if this sort of behaviour stays with him and he thinks its ok to be like that? I dont blame the Lab but I am sort of re-thinking taking him to the dog park everyday since this might happen on a daily basis.

All the other dogs seem to play a bit rough with him as well but they all know their limits and my boy isnt submissive in fact he seems to jump on the bigger dogs too lol.

Did you guys take your puppies out later stages in life or really early?

I haven't had a dog from a pup (Daisy is a rescue) I'm sure some other members will be able to let you know about their experiences Smile

I took Rocky to the dog parks here really as soon as he had his second jabs, as I wanted to ensure he was socialised and experienced a lot of things in his surroundings, if ever in doubt I kept him on a training lead just in case, but he is a good boy now, its just other dogs im wary of!

I also had boss out after his last jab although he was older (16-18weeks) and had him into the dog walking park to meet other dogs and everything turned out fine, some dogs were very rough but he seemed to enjoy playing with the bigger stronger dogs than ones his own size lol so id say keep taking him and getting him meeting as many new dogs and people as possible Smile

Thanks for reply guys.
Yeah I took Rumble out today again and met 2 staffs who sort of agitated him at first but then left him alone. It was the first time I witnessed Rumble actually snarling and standing his ground against the pair lol.

I actually enjoy dog parks now just have to keep a watchful eye out on him I guess though.

Doesn't hurt to be socialising him just keep an eye with all body language and as said a long training lead is great, freedom for Rumble but peace of mind for you as you still have control if need be.Big Grin
