how do you age a rehomed puppy?
Hi I'm new here but not a new staffie owner. We had a 14 month old rescue before and had him until he was 12 1/2 years young :0) He was amazing and after 2 years we have taken the plunge and got a puppy rescue staff in the hopes he'll turn out just as nice as our 'old boy'! ....we know he'll be just fine ;0)
Any way our new boy is a rehomed 'found stray' puppy (god knows why he's adorable and very handsome) he was said to be 6 months but vet says more like 4 when we took him for his jabs. He initially had an upset tummy after bringing him home and the rescue place did say they do not give special puppy food and we immediately put him on Hills science puppy, he immediately lost the bloated look and started doing normal poo's and getting that typical staff body shape! He's learnt very quickly and seems very mature, he seems to me older than 4 months but not having had a puppy of any kind since I was 15 and I know breeds vary - I'm stuck!
My question is how can we be more certain of age? His teeth are all puppy ones apart from the very front ones his canines are even puppy ones still. Can any one offer any ideas? When did your pups get their full adult teeth? I appreciate there will be some variation but I'm keen to be more sure. Thanks :0)

Sounds very similar. Moo was about 8 months when I got her but I I think she was more 10-12, but I'll never know. She had horrendous diareah when I got her (spelling) but we are still dealing with that after a year! You can never be certain with a rescues' age, if he still has puppy teeth (teething?) then he is very young still, but they develope so differently. You can't really compare and as a rescue they are so individule anyway.
Welcome and nice one on rescuing

Re: how do you age a rehomed puppy?
Great news on the resice its always great to hear and brightens my day.
From what you Said about him still having all puppy teeth except canines I'd say he's about 5 months. I know my dogs are cross bred but pure ones i have had, have had all their adults by the time they are 6-8 months and having so many puppy teeth he got some time to go yet.
My youngest Blondy who i have now had all her adults by the time she was 6 months.

Well Done On The Rescue and Welcome From Bruno And Me:D
Can't advise you on the age as I haven't had that many dogs as an adult and well the dogs i had when i was a child, my parents took more notice of stuff like that.

If he still has all his puppy teeth it is unlikely he is 6 months. I would chance a guess that he is younger, All of my dog's teeth have usually finished falling out by 6months, 5 months being the average. Have u got a photo of him?I might be able to hapzard a guess!

Re: how do you age a rehomed puppy?
Hi & welcome, good on you for rescuing a pup & giving him a forever home!
As to his age, all my dogs have had their full sets of teeth before the age of 6 months, so I would say he's definitely younger than that. From what you've said I'd hazzard a guess at about 5 months old.
What's his name & can you post a couple of pics of him?

Great news on the rescue and welcome.
Going on Lola's teeth, she has all her adult teeth now and is 6 or maybe 7 months now, I must check the calender as i seem to have been saying she's 6 months for the last month lol
But I'd hazard a guess at 4.5 to 5 months old.

You'll need an account with photobucket.com (it's free!). Then upload your pics from your computer to photobucket. Once that's done hover your mouse over the pic you want to post & you'll see a drop down menu - just copy the last line (IMG code) and paste it on to your post here!
