Other dogs! Empty Other dogs!

Post by cmt Mon Apr 18 2011, 20:00

So angry, took our little Nala for her walk today and another dog who was walking off lead went for her, as she's only 20 weeks she was scared to death! Anyway it's really annoyed me, plus the fact staffs have a bad reputation for not being friendly with other dogs and it doesn't help when others are attacking her when we are trying hard to make sure she's as sociable as possible! On top of this her response was well he's not done it before!!!

I could cheerfully strangle people like that! Why can't they control their dogs? For goodness sake, couldn't she see she was a pup?

When Dempsey was about 4 or 5 months old a Bearded Collie X Old English Sheepdog (size of an Old English but the shape of a Beardie!) went for him. The woman's excuse was that "one of those bit him when he was younger".

I replied, somewhat loudly, "What, a puppy, or a Bull Terrier?" and she said "No, a jack russell".

I not too politely told her what she could do & finished with "You'll rue the day you let your dog do that to mine - one day he'll be big enough & strong enough to pin yours to the ground".

A couple of weeks ago he did.

I would of told her what i thought lol

Hope Nala is alright Smile

Slightly different situation, Me Bruno and my little girl took Bruno for a walk, we had a lovely walk and met a black lab called Theo who we usually see. but on the way back they was a man standing to one side with a rottie and staffie, didn't think any of it and my daughter went near them and the rottie pulled its owner to the floor, i thought oppps but if you can't control a dog of that size that you shouldn't have one Smile

Why let your dog off lead if you think it will harm another or it will not take any notice of you and bog off.
Hope shes okay Smile
Im sick of people letting there dogs come running up to me and when I reply there on a lead have you got control of yours they answer you should have them muzzled I just laugh when there trying to recall and there well trained dogs do one and there running after them trying to catch them ha ha

Some people think it's one set of rules for them, and one completely different set for everyone else.

Hope the lil' one's ok

. one of my pet hates too!

If we are somewhere and Jethro is off his lead, and then I see another dog I always put him back on his lead.
We were doing the RSPCA Milllion Paws Walk and someone had a jack russell ( on a lead ) and we had to stop next to them. The jack russel lunged at Jethro trying to rip his head off ( Jethro was on his lead too ) everyone heard the commotion, turned around and all presumed Jetro had gone for the jack russell!! GGGRRRR!!!!!!!!........ ( in reality too Jethro was hiding behind me by then, but I could hear all the talk about 'those dogs')

Well Nala is fine, but I'm so annoyed, and what if next time her dog isn't on the lead it happens again! In a year's time that dog wouldn't stand a chance against Nala and what happenes then? It's just when we walk Nala we welcome her sniffing and getting to know dogs on the walk (dogs on leads) but I avoid any dogs off lead and try to get her away! There was an alsation the other day sniffing around her etc whilst the owner was on his horse, in all fairness he did not hurt her but Nala was quite scared and I just think if anything had happened he was on a horse, Nala was on a lead and his alsation was wondering free! GRRR! As you say, you can never predict a dogs behaviour and because they have this reputation we have been trying hard to socialise her but yesterday was a real pain - as she said, she didn't do it last time he saw her! Oh yeah so that's okj then!!!

This is my biggest pet hate, I try so hard to socialise my dogs. With obedience classes, puppy school, walks out with friends. It only takes one other dog to attack yours, particularly puppies, and they are fearful of it happening again. This means they will treat strange dogs differently, they will be more wary. Especially staffords!
