what did you use
hi everyone I'm new and have found this site to be extremely helpful and very friendly as i read the posts on here.
I am to collect my pup soon and was wondering what everyone else used to carry their pup home in?
This feels like a silly question but what is the best product to use to bring him home in? its about 20 miles
thanx

Re: what did you use
We live in Hampshire down south and got our pup from Liverpool so had to drive him the four hours home. He sat on a blanket on my partners lap the whole way and was perfectly happy. I think he would have been more stressed if he didn't have the comfort of my partner giving him strokes and tickles the whole way.

Re: what did you use
Thank you so much for replying I was thinking to hold him while other half drove but was wondering if thats what others have done. I did think he'd get stressed if kept locked in a carrier or something. thanks again

Re: what did you use
We used a small dog carrier with a blanket from the breeder so she could smell her mum & siblings, she was fine we seat belted the carrier between our children and the stroked her all the was home

Re: what did you use
We dropped off an old jumper at the breeders a week before we brought him home, which was put in with him and his litter mates to get their scent. He sat on my wife's knee wrapped in this while I drove. Mind you we live just 10 mins. from his breeder.

Re: what did you use
A familiar scent is definitely a good idea Dempsey had a little tea towel with his littermates' and mum's scent on it. The only time he got nervous was when we got to the train station, but if you have a car, he should be fine!
I would advise a secure area like a carry case or even a cardboard box, just to make sure he doesn't tumble down from the seat or hurt himself in the car.

Re: what did you use
The breeder might well give you something with the litter scent on it. Bacchus slept with his in the crate for months. Not sure how much of it was him needing it and how much was me not wanting him to not be a puppy anymore.mazzyboo wrote:forgot about the scent idea hopefully he'll be okay without it. thank you for your replies

Re: what did you use
Vinnie was from Nottingham, about 4 hours drive from here if not a bit longer. I held him with his mums blanket on my lap, or he curled up on the seat. He slept the whole way.

Re: what did you use
We took a blanket with us which was rubbed all over the mum and the bed the he sat on my knee ( still does!) and I felt he would have been scared in a box or something. I use the blanket in his bed when we got back.
Goo luck and please post lots of pics

Re: what did you use
If anybody does decide to use a carry case or cardboard box, it's recommended that you place it in the footwell of the back seat, rather than in front of or on the passenger seat. People are more likely to keep looking down to check on the dog if it's in the passenger seat, which diverts attention away from the road.

Re: what did you use
When we fetched Tip I held her on my lap wrapped in a soft blanket in the backseat. The only thing my little girl wanted to do was curl up and sleep. We use the blanket for her still.
