harness trouble
Hi everyone its me again I was playing with sasha this afternoon and noticed that she has a graze under one of her front legs right in the armpit. Firstly I thought it might have been a bit of rough play with my friends puppy they are the same age. But after thinking about it some more its her harness that is rubbing on one side. Its not tight around her body and she doesn't pull when walking. Would it be better to leave it and let it heal as its not bothering her or try and keep it clean as she does enjoy digging and rolling in the dirt. Also is there any harnesses around that dont have the nylon strap that goes underneath their body? x

Re: harness trouble
If the skin's broken, you could bathe it in salt water just to make sure that no infection sets in. Otherwise, it'll likely heal on its own.
You can get harnesses with padding, but you can also fix your own padding onto one you already have.
Ezydog do good harnesses. Here's one:

Or this one, which avoids the armpit area and settles around the chest:

Re: harness trouble
I have fleece/padded harnesses as they are so short furred they can easily get rubbed by them

Re: harness trouble
The section of the harness that goes around her neck and chest is soft mesh with fleece lining its the bits that go under the front legs and fasten the harness together is nylon webbing that's the part thats rubbing

Re: harness trouble
You may want to use a collar until the graze heals to avoid further irritation. After that, I think it would be a good idea to look through websites such as Ezydog for good harnesses - a lot of them have padded straps under the armpits, rather than nylon.

Re: harness trouble
Ive just had a look on ezydog website I think they may be too big for her at the moment as she is still small. Think I will have to get the tape measure out if she keeps still long enough last time I measured her she tried to eat the measure

Re: harness trouble
Bless her!
They do different sizes, so she might fit into the small or medium

Re: harness trouble
Gwen's harness does this and sometime irritates her armpits! It's strange that it's only causing a problem on one side though! Have you tried loosening that side? Maybe it's too tight and that's why it's only rubbing on one side?

Re: harness trouble
I bathed it in salt water last night and it's less red this morning and doesn't seem to be bothering her. As for the harness I think you may be right caraelizabeth it may be a little too tight as its a bit snug over her head too. I can't loosen it anymore and its the side with the clasp on thats rubbing. Have been looking for a harness that is a bit more padded someone suggested ezydog but not sure if she is big enough. She wont walk when I use a collar not sure why ??????

Re: harness trouble
It may be worth looking at this place for a harness too, they are fleece lined. I have heard that the Trixie harness isn't very good so I would not recommend that one.

Re: harness trouble
We use the ezydog chest plate harness for Jock with no rubbing problems....I got the medium size for him which initially fit him at the smallest setting and I'm letting it out as he grows

Re: harness trouble
That's great to hear the wound healed up! I would go with whatever you feel is best for Sasha for the collar or harness!

Re: harness trouble
Glad to hear that her little sore has healed ... Chiquito has the same problem with his harness, so he wears his ezidog for obedience/training and a Puppia harness the rest of the time. The Puppia harness is much softer, sits quite wide across the belly strap and has the soft padding right through to the sides rather than just under the chest and belly.
