New toy/exercise game
Bacchus recently spent the holidays with his breeder, who has become a friend and, because she has 8 dogs, has to be inventive in order to exercise her dogs. Boomer balls, tug toys, burst footballs ( they don't start that way ) tug ropes etc. I found this one particularly interesting and Bacchus loves it. She has what is called a lunge whip ( very much like a cabby's whip ) which is used in horse training. It is 2 mtrs long and she ties an old rag on the end and gets the dogs to chase it. I got one on-line from Robinsons equine supplies for £9.99 including postage and vat. The one I got has a threaded joint in the middle for ease of carrying. Apparently they are widely used by Staffy show people as they are very good for developing all the muscle groups because of the chase/twist/turn/tug elements.
I only use it in very short spells because of his age but it really tires him without me having to walk miles ( I'm waiting for a doctor's appointment regarding a sore Achiles tendon ).

Re: New toy/exercise game
I've not heard of anyone using one of those for dog training/exercise before, but very inventive all the same.

Wow! Never heard of that one before, yet another inventive way to keep them entertained, and tired at the end of it!

Same idea except it is an actual whip ( horse lunge whip ) 2 mtr long and you improvise by tieing a rag to the end.BIG SBT wrote:Do you mean a flirt pole? like the cats toy?

Yes. It's great for getting rid of excess energy.CaraElizabeth wrote:Wow that looks like a great game! Gwen would love it! Will have to try it out once she gets older! Do you swing it around and he chases it?

That's the one. With VAT and postage it comes to £9.99. and must say I am very impressed at that price.Darcy-may wrote:Have a look at this one inez, Rodger said he paid under £10 with p&p so it could be that one

Another little tip....I tied a not in the end then used a cable tie to attach the rag just above the knot.
