Teeth play
Sapphie loves to play! She enjoys toys but, more so, she enjoys you fooling around with her. She wiggles her little bum bum and opens her mouth. She bites your arm/hands but its not hard at all. It used to be but shes learned now what hurts. If she accidentally bites too hard, I say ouchie/no bite and she stops or bites gently.
Is this ok or should there be no biting at all? My one worry is that if kids start playing with her, she may bite (not hard) but they might get freaked out like OMG she bites
Sapphie is my 2nd staffy, as my last baby died (Guinny, in the memorial section) and Guinny used to be the same (but less energetic) and when she was older than a pup, she didn't bite people or kids, only if WE were playing. Will this be the same for Sapphie??

Re: Teeth play
Darcy bites & nibbles but only during play and can get a little carried away, a "enough" and she stops straight away.

Re: Teeth play
Rocky does love to play bite, and we do allow it to some extent, but I guess some dogs don't know when to stop. If they do get carried away with another person they might not know what to say to get them to back away and this might be the problem. Im not really the best to give advice on this topic, im still learning myself with Rocky being my first staff, but im sure someone will more advice will be along soon

Re: Teeth play
Thanks, its just because shes a pup, you cannot really trust them yet with other people, because shes just a baby herself lol. I guess its all about teaching and learning

Re: Teeth play
We allow playfighting with us which is rough and we DO allow play biting but they have been taught to release and we bite them back

Re: Teeth play
Same here. Frankie love's to play rough and he has learned to soft bite. it takes time for them to understand but once you have mastered it there is no harm in play biting. Just be clear if things get to rough and have a little time out. Good luck..

Re: Teeth play
The thing to remember is that over excitement will make a stafford bite/mouth. That being the case, young children should never be allowed to play roughley with them!
Most staffords, if they're taught properly (as yours obviously is) will understand the need to be gentle with children once they are more mature, but children being children will often push & pull, grab & squeel - all of which could over excite the dog!

Re: Teeth play
As long as she stops when you tell her too I think its okay! Make sure its always on your terms and play stops immediately if she gets too rough. Its really a personal choice..some familys that have children prefer there to be no biting just to avoid accidents! We let Gwen mouth us as long as she stops when we tell her its enough, if we had little kids I might feel differently. She only does this with me and my OH though!

Re: Teeth play
I do also allow Daisy to mouth a bit when we play, she's learnt really well to know when enough is enough
