chewing.. arghhhb
Hi all
Some advice please. Weller gas bwem doing great we both took last week off work to help settle him but back at work this week. Outside of sleep time when he us I his crate he hasn't been on his own for more than 1 1/2 hrs and today he has started chewing the chairs. I gave sprayed with cherry bitters but it hasn't made any difference. I really don't want to leave him in his crate every time we go out and I don't want to have to clear the room of furniture, any ideas that will help us nip this behaviour in the bud would be gratefully received! !

Why are you against leaving him in his crate? For short periods like that, it would make all the difference!

Re: chewing.. arghhhb
Crates can be so useful if they are used properly.
Dempsey would probably have killed himself (as well as wrecked half the house) if he had been allowed to wander when he was left for short periods & overnight. We was a real serial chewer & with jaws like iron even at 3 or 4 months old, he'd get through everything.
He was never shut in it for more than a couple of hours (I'm lucky, I can take him to work) and overnight, and we waited for the demented devil to stop chewing things before we started to leave the crate door open - first overnight, and then when we left him to go shopping etc.
Now, it's his place of choice - his quiet den where he knows he won't be disturbed & he often takes himself into it for a relax and a sleep!

Re: chewing.. arghhhb
If you're worried about chair legs etc, you could also try smearing some Vicks Vapour Rub on them - the smell & taste put dogs off chewing better than the proper sprays!

Re: chewing.. arghhhb
Thanks Caryll. He had messed in his crate this morning and again when I went to the gym for an hour. Perseverance paid off, I put him in his crate while I worked in my home office and although he was a little fractous at first he realised what the Kong was and settled down.
He has been better this after noon and is now snoring his gead off! Fibgets crossed for tonight. Its pouring with rain here and he is veru resistant to going out!!
Hi staffy he is a chunky chap. He is 12 weeks today! His dad was a bigun!

1.5 hours is perfect time for a nap after a walk. Dont feel guilty about that amount of time!

I have to admit i noticed this too. He is maybe a tad overweight for a puppy

Re: chewing.. arghhhb
Interesting comments about his weight, vet said he is a big pup but not overweight for his build, so not worried.
