Opinions needed
Hi Guys, I would like some opinions on this, we have Roxy who is 13 weeks old, she went to meet a 2 year old staffy the other day and they played for hours happily.
After seeing them play so well together we have begun to think about getting another pup, rather than wait a year we thought about doing this asap so Roxy and the new pup can grow together.
We understand the implications, cost, dog sitters ect.
What do you think? are we mad or is it better to do this while they are young rather than introducing an older dog later?

Re: Opinions needed
Crazy to go for another pup , lots of hard work together . If you think you are ready now then why not look for a rescue 2-3 yrs old and a boy ?? but personally I would either wait until Roxy is around 2 and get another pup (ideally a boy) or wait until she is past all the naught stages , a year or so, and again look at an older rescue .
Having said that its only an opinion as some mebers have done it like this and its worked out ok , though we have also seen people where it hasn't

Good advice, we would have originally got a rescue but we wanted to get a pup to bring up with the kids.

I know exactly what you mean about this but it can work for you ok as you can pick out the quieter dogs etc , meet the kids but some people do always worry about history.
We chewed over a 2nd pup for a while and decided to wait (though at the time of getting Tilly we did almost go back and take her sister through guilt)

I feel a little guilty about not getting a rescue, you see so many staffies in the homes, as you say without knowing any real history can be a worry.
We would want a boy and both would be done so there would be no risk of pups, me and my wife both believe that the population is growing to rapid and this is why so many end up in the homes. Along with people who get staffies who think they are a "Well ard" dog mis treat them and also end up in homes.

We got 2 pups because I couldn't convince my OH to go for rescue on no 2 as at the time she was a childminder , there was also a chat with a lady that runs a rescue who basically told me there was no way she would let one of her dogs go to a CM and that she thought the authorities and Ofsted would not allow it (it was if this lady did not want to get any of her dogs homes) .
Many rescues will not rehome to people with kids under 8 years old .
It's all your decision in the end though which direction you take. Ours has been a little rocky along the way with behaviours etc from both of them but feel like we are there now and it is a comfortable age gap. Tilly was done at 18 months ish in anticipation of another dog coming , Tommy will be getting his nuts off in 10 months time

Re: Opinions needed
IMO I'd wait until Roxy is 12 months 18 months ideally, or go for a rescue, but I understand your concern re- your children, but that's me, good luck with what you decide, keep us updated

I think we have decided to wait. We had a chat this morning and think it would be better to wait until Rox is a little older

I would wait as well, think you've made the right decision. It's so easy to get carried away!

Re: Opinions needed
I think you're right to wait, two pups together, especially when you have children to look after as well, can be just too much!
There's also the problem of neutering too early to avoid an unwanted pregnancy! Early neutering has been linked to so many health problems, but if you wait until Roxy is 18 months - 2 years old, you can spay her & then get another without the worry of unplanned pups and avoiding any untoward health implications.

Re: Opinions needed
I would not get two pups purely because they end up thinking of eachother as siblings and can become aggressive to eachother. An older dog teaches a pup so much about life and i think they settle in faster when they have a role model, so instead of two pups who dont listen, you will have a dog that does and a pup that listens to the dog.

Be careful he doesn't fall off the end of that Stag Bar.
Re another puppy....our next door neighbours got 2 collie pups and they are lovely pups, now about 6 months old, but have been and still are a nightmare to train as they fed off each others energy.
Can't imagine 2 Staffy pups LOL.

In an ideal world yes , or in the sometimes real world you get 1 quiet dog , and one idiot that does what he wants, but the theory is good

We got our boy when our girl was 9mths, the first mth was hell !!
Seriously hell !
I don't regret getting him when my girl was a 'big pup' but it was tough.
So IMO. Unless u are prepared for a month of hard work, can devote all ur time to them, then wait till ur first is adult. 18mths c

People still ask is she a boy or a girl, I would have though the collar was a hint.

Exactly the same experience with the Harness and Collar on people can just be so at times

Re: Opinions needed
Absolutely crazy to get another pup now! Thinking that they will be closer because they will "grow together" is complete rubbish! It is best to have a 18 month gap between Roxy and your future pup (if you still want a pup at that point)! I wouldn't consider getting another pup until Roxy is at least 18 months old or even better wait until she's 2 years old. Having two pups so close in age makes it much harder to train them (as if its not already hard enough!) and sometimes actually results in them bonding less with you!

People still call Gwen "he" even though she has a bright pink harness! I don't get it! Glad you've decided to wait until Roxy is a little older and more mature! I think you are making the right decision! Focus on her and her training and think about that a little further down the road! Love her pink collar! She is so cute!

Re: Opinions needed
Yeah much better to wait until she is a bit older. We have a pup who is 10months and are going to have another litter, I know we will end up keeping one, Kali-mist will be about 14months by then. I think we are going to have way to much energy in the house and are completely mad but there we go. I would leave it longer if I could but this is going to be Tali's last season before she hits 5 years and I wouldn't want to do it after that.

I also thought about a second pup but the vet told me to wait untill Xaja is mature.. So the pup learns "how".. Well, its sounds very logic
