Firstly I have had pups in the past and never had an issue like this.

Roxy is bitting me, and me alone, I know puppies bite but this seems to be me alone, we do things by the book, yelp and say no, exclude her from the room for time out ect ect ect.

She will bite at me legs, bark and growls at me, I would not say she is being aggressive as I do not believe a 12 week old pup can be aggressive.

The bitting at times is hard and she has drawn blood on my leg, I do everything I should do, she is not like this sith my wife and kids, just me.

Am I doing something wrong?

She seems to do this more when I am walking her around in the garden on her lead, or when we have been playing in the living room.

To be honest, it sounds more like over-excitement than anything else.

I know you've probably already answered this elsewhere, but what food does she get & what exercise?

She is on JWB, She gets plenty of exercise in the garden (Not allowed out until Sunday), She gets plenty of play time with the whole family and training time.

I do understand and expect a puppy to mouth and bite but it only seems to be with me.

I Just wondered if she was sensing something with me that she was not with the others, I do not rough play with her.

She may see you as the 'strongest' one & so doesn't need to be gentle.

Another member here had a very similar experience (Debo) with her pup. She struggled for a few weeks with him & was often near to tears because of it. However, patience, perseverance & consistency won through & he's now a well behaved, non-biting year old dog!

As long as you keep up with the training & never let her get away with any nips at all ("No!", turn away & ignore; no eye contact; time out if it continues) it will get better!

P.S. She's also coming up to teething stage so will be a little more nippy for a few weeks - a dampened, frozen tea towel is great for them to chew on as the cold numbs the sore gums & the cloth gives them something to take away the chewing need - supervised, of course!

Sunday may well be the key when you can take her out properly as caryll says sounds like over excitement hopefully when you get her into a regular exercise routine you will see a difference in her behavior also if you are the person that has the most interaction with her from a early age she may well be seeing you as a litter mate substitute and she is having her ruff puppy play with you which you will need to work on stopping Big Grin
but dont worry to much you will get there puppies can have a light switch effect and when it clicks there behavior can change in a very short time (there one smart breed of dogs)

memphis is coming upto 3 and he still has his ruffer play moments with me and only me (no nipping or anything like that )but jumping and trying to look aggressive haha which he dont pull off Tongues but puppies and dogs do see differences in the way they will react and play with different members of the family

I will always stick with it, Roxy is here to stay, the last 2 days I have felt a little down about it as I think I have been blaming myself for it as it is only me she wants to eat.

I will keep you posted with things and if i can upload a video I will.

It does get better! It is very frustrating and it seems like it will never get better but eventually with time, patience, and consistency it does! I went through the same thing with Gwen and she still nips me sometimes but it has definitely gotten better. Hang in there! Big Grin

Hi MrToast. My puppy is 13 weeks now and he was a pain in the * with nipping and biting it really does bring you down but you have to be strong and persevere with "no" and turning away. Be even started time outs for 5 mins at a time and ignore him when he came back in the room. My sister with her puppy had the same issue as you though she was always targeted for biting and no one else. You'll get there!

This is my first post to. I'll introduce myself soon!

Frankie is two and he still does this. It's mainly when he's off lead on walks and like you he only does it to me. I think its partly excitement and partly dominance with frankie. I've found the best thing to do is correct the behaviour by diverting his attention to something else. I've had walks where for half an hour frankie has been hanging off my wellies!! As soon as he starts I get a treat and make him sit and wait an put him back on the lead for a couple of minutes like a time out. If this doesn't work (he's very stubborn) I just sit down and avoid eye contact. When he's quiet I reward him and he will stop. He is much better now but still has his moments. Hope this helps!!

its a long time since sash was a pup but i can still remember as soon as my husband got in from work she would terrorize himĀ Surprised, she would be totally uncontrolable until he had been home at least half an hour, she did grow out of it though,we put it down to excitment .

Biscuit, though not a puppy, is also very different in the way that she interacts with me and my OH. She's very gentle with me, but will rough house and play bite my OH enough to break to skin. She has a very soft mouth in play in general, but will get overexcited at times. Persevere! Sounds like you're doing everything right Smile

Have the scars to prove it lol, oh those little razor teath....

I also agree with Caryll's earlier post that she sees you as the strongest in the pac. take it as a honour and also as a great way to train her, if she respects you that much its you she is going to listen to most. (along with playing the hardest with) its swings and roundabouts I'm afraid.

Hi Jay,

I wouldn't take it too personally, from personal experience, Rocky is 5 months old at the moment and is still very mouthy with my boyfriend who is the only on who plays rough with him. He gets very over excited and gets too playful with him, but is never like that with me or our nephews/nieces. I think they really know who they can play like that with to that extent. I don't allow him to be like that around me, so he is very calm and relaxed when I'm with him, as soon as my boyfriend gets home, he is a different dog!
