In season 7 month and kennels
Hi
4 weeks ago me and the family went to London, so Bella was taken to the kennels for 3 nights. Bella was well into her first season at this point so we asked that she had no contact from any males at all (period)
The kennels said this would not be a problem, and off we went on our merry way to London, when we picked her up she was fine but the girl at the reception said that she had been playing nicely with a MALE !!!!!!!!! lab puppy.
I was abit shocked but then thought that maybe puppies do not do the mating thing, but when I got home I read up n it and they can mate from a very early age.
Bella has been subdued for a week or so, some morning sickness and her teets seem enlarged. If she is pregnant what can I do, as regards the kennels etc, surely they should have a duty of care????
Fingers crossed she is not.
She is also booked into the same kennels at the end of July.

Re: In season 7 month and kennels
In regards to the kennels I would agree that they have a duty of care, it is not hard to keep dogs seperate. But I'm not really sure on the technicalities, some one on here may know more. I would certainly not use them again, they have behaved very irresponsibly allowing an in season bitch to play with an un neautered male.

Re: In season 7 month and kennels
I totally agree with both answers. I would also question whether the kennels should be asked to pay your vets bills!
Males as young as 4 months can be fertile!

A trip to the vet asap to get checked. She is so young and a lab is so large that the puppies pose a serious risk to her life.
As for the kennel you must call them asap and explain your concerns and let them know you will be seeking the vet bills to be paid by them!

Of course she may be in the middle of a phantom pregnancy, but you really need to have her checked.
The kennels, in my opinion, have been grossly negligent & I certainly wouldn't be happy using them again!

Re: In season 7 month and kennels
My girl is about 17 days into her season and I've managed to keep my 20 month old unneutered male away from her, so kennels should be more than capable of it ! If they can't keep a male pup away from her when you specifically said about her season, I'd be questioning what else they haven't done right !!

Re: In season 7 month and kennels
Happily they cant see any puppies on the scan, however they have asked us to go back in 2 weeks for another, as they have known scans not to pick up at 4 weeks and show at 6 weeks. They do believe she is having a phantom pregnancy so she may need some tablets if it doesnt clear up naturally.
Thanks for all your comments and support

Re: In season 7 month and kennels
I really think you should bill the kennels for your vet's bills, though. Those scans aren't cheap!
Let us know what the scan shows next time.

I also totally agree that the Kennels are responsible for the vet fees!
