Getting used to the lead Empty Getting used to the lead

Hi Big Grin

Another puppy question if you don't mind:-/

Did it take your puppies a long time to accept the lead being on?

I am putting in on 3 times a day for 5 mins and using a treat to move her along.....she HATES it and mostly refuses to move even using the tastiest treats or her favourite toy ....I am being really encouraging and trying to make it as exciting as possible. I don't really feel I am making any progress.

She will run around with the lead clipped on , but as soon as I hold it then she stops dead and shakes her head no talking

I wanted to get her use to it, so that when she is old enough to go out, it isn't such a big ordeal.

Any ideas?

Can anyone else help and distract her so she doesn't see you picking the lead up ?? just a thought. Apart from that you are doing everything you can and just have to have patience

Logan was a nightmare on the lead at the start as he just sat his big fat bum down and wouldn't move. But by getting her used to it in short spells in the house itll be much easier outside when she's ready.

Once she's outside smells etc will make her want to investigate things but still don't be too disappointed if she does the same as Logan lol!

Charlie was the same, he was a little bundle of shakes! We had to pick him up and carry him out of the house and he was very reluctant to walk. It just got better over time....I can honestly say it's only these past few weeks that he happily walk out of the house, tail up and wagging, with his lead on (although he's been ok once out for a while now)

we are going away with her at Easter so would be nice to take her on some little walks and on the longer lead on the beach Big Grin
