Can anyone help
Hi all.
It's 3 am and I can't sleep coz my little Lanta a 6 month old blue staff has been up crying and not well
If I start from the beginning it may give a better picture.
Around a month a go Lanta started itching all over her body and scratched her ears and face so much age made herself bleed we took her to the vets and they done skin scrape and couldn't find anything so determined it was scarcoptic mange. We treated her with advocat and the scratching continued so we used steroid tablets given by the vet. They stopped the itching. As a family we travelled to Leeds for a family break and Lanta was as good as gold hardly any itching abd the steroid tablets had finishef. We get back to our house and the itching had started again and now she has been sick 4 times in a day and wrteching a lot and has diarrhea . She's always been a good girl with going to bed now she cries when we put her in there and wakes us up once or twice to go to the number 2, I think she's weeing excessively too. We haven't changed her diet and she is on eukeneba food and has been all her life. Can anyone shed some light it's 3am and I'm worrying about my little girl. We are going vets tomorrow. Thanks x

Re: Can anyone help
It sounds like it could be an allergy to something in your home? Maybe a cleaning product or plant Do you have any Benadryl or Antihistamines in the house? If you do you can give her a small dose of that. 1mg per kilo that she weighs.. I hope this helps

Poor little girl.
To be honest it sounds like a food intolerance. I can't check the ingredients of Eukaneuba right now, but does it have a high percentage of grains? Wheat etc?
What about treats, have you changed them at all?
I'd try her on a hypoallergenic food to see if that helps.

Sounds like some sort of allergy to me too, possibly a food allergy, ever since we've had Zeus he's always been over scratching etc, its calmed down alot since we moved him onto Orijen dry food. The first thing I would do is give some Piriton/anti-histimines to combat it, if it is an allergy.
Following on from Carylls point, generally looking at a random Eukanuba dry food, the ingredients are not the best:
Ingredients
Chicken (>24%), maize, wheat, animal fat, sorghum, barley, poultry meal, dried beet pulp, chicken digest, dried whole egg, brewer's dried yeast, potassium chloride, salt, sodium hexametaphosphate, fish oil, linseed, DL-Methionine. [for < 10 kg] Contains EC permitted antioxidant. [for >= 10 kg] Contains EC permitted antioxidant: tocopherols.
First of all, there is way too much grain in there (maize & wheat) which are known allergens and could be causing the problem. Then you've got other pointless stuff in there like brewer's dried yeast, which doesn't offer any nutriotional value and could be the culprit.
As Caryll said, you should move onto a hypoallergenic food as soon as you can, Wainwrights from Pets At Home is a good example, so is James Well Beloved, all pretty much in the same price range. Make sure you gradually move over to the new food over a period of 7 days atleast.

Re: Can anyone help

Re: Can anyone help
There is quite a high proportion of both maize and wheat in the food which could be causing the condition. However see what the vet says anyway, it could be a reaction to something in your home too. Have you recently changed washing powder or anything like that ??

Re: Can anyone help
Hi everyone thanks for your help and concern. Went to the vets and they weren't much help and saud it sounds like an allergic reCtion. we were given steroid cream and we have to use gloves to put it on- now worrying she will lick it so havent used much of it.We have changed food to hypo allergenic James well beloved and hypo allergenic treats. Have bought all new bedding. My partner and I want away for 4 nights left Lanta with my mother and father in law and hoping with the new food etc and new surroundings the itching and scratching would stop but no luck . We've come back to scabs under arm pits. Balding red runny eyes. Apparently while we were away the scratching subsided but then started again. Thinking of going onto the anti histamine now. As we have ruled out food etc. looks like it's going to be a long process.
