Doesn't listen when food is around.
Have had my 7 month old Staffie for just a few days now and he's normally quite responsive. When food is around however, it's a different matter and he will head right for it and not respond. He's really bad for jumping up and grabbing things and managed to nick a whole pack of cold meat which he tried to pretty much swallow whole including the wrapper. When I tried to get it out of his mouth there was no way he was letting go and it was a bit of a war to get it out. I was terrified he would choke on the plastic. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I can do. Also he has no manners whatsoever and barges past my other dogs, as well as jumping on top of them or if they are in the way just trying to sit on top of them!

Have you tried having him sit and wait for his food before giving it to him?

Hi yes I do that and he will sit and wait but if there's our food or something sitting on the counter, he will leap up to try and get it and if he sees us eating something he's totally fixated on it.

Mine is not allowed in the kitchen when I am cooking, I started when I got her to learn to wait across the carpet/tile line (open plan), just took a few repetitions and this also installed no begging Xx

That's a good idea actually. I have a baby gate I use to separate the dogs at certain times so will keep him the other side of that. He sometimes whines and cries when I do this. Should I ignore him or tell him to shhh?
