Chewing Skirting & Bannister
Hi Was wondering if they have a similar problems with their Staffy, she is 5 years old and has recently chewed the bannister and skirting boards whilst we have been at work. Normally she doesnt do anything like this and went through a phase when she was a pup we thought she had grown out of it but one day she heard a gun shot in the fields and went into the kitchen to start chewing the skirting board. We are wondering if this could because has been spooked maybe. Anyone else have the same problem???

When a dog starts chewing your belongings when they haven't previously. Then it is normally because of one of the following reasons.
1. Medical Condition
2. Something has changed in their day to dy routine
3. Something has scared the dog which has made them scared
I think the gun shot has scared Missy and now for some reason when she is left alone, something triggers her memory to the time when she heard the gun shot. She becomes scared and chew for comfort.
You may have to go back to basics by leaving her for a short amount of time, then build the time back up. Also kongs and toys are great to help her associate being left alone with something positive

I had a dog that did the same and it turned out to be separation anxiety. Doesnt sound like the case with yours though, I agree with Blue, you prob just need to go back to basics with her and rebuild her confidence at being left on her own.
