Vets kitchen dog food?!

Jut been to the Asda and strolling down the pet isle i cane across vets kitchen dog food. I was just wondering if any one has used or heard of before. Iv bought a small bag as was on offer, had a quick read up online and seems ok has all the recommend ingredients that alot of you have mentioned. Iv just tried him with it and he ate it like there was no tomorrow, normal he just picks at the current one we are using! Any comments would be appreciated ta

The only problem with that one is that it's 40% rice! Although the meat content isn't bad at 28% you would probably do a lot better with a food that's less rice & just feed a little less.

Hi I haven,t tried the food yet but my Ava had a really bad tummy over Xmas she got hold of an old bone when we was out my vet recommended the vets kitchen probiotic that you add too the dogs food and it really helped i give it too both my dogs now, the food does look good let us know as we always like feedback on any good foods as its a minefield out there x

I picked up the joint supplement aswell which i am going to start using tomorrow by vets kitchen. when i was looking on the right up it says that it is easy on the tummy as well. I think it trail and error really, but its the first one i have used that he has eaten straight away in stead of looking at his bowl as if its muck haha! its only a small bag for a fiver so thought we cannot loose anything. it smells nice aswell (as far as dry food can smell nice) but i will deff let you know

Caryll is right thats a high percentage of rice dogs don,t actually need carbs and around 14% has been found too be good for them for energy etc but so many foods have much higher percentages.
With food though it really is trial and error i have owned staffies for 25yrs and they have all really varied i have used the most expensive too the cheapest depending on what suited the dogs best you will find one your dog likes and he will show you if it suits him by being well and fit xx

There are a few good dry foods if thats the way you want too go barking heads the natural food company i think if you ask Caryll she can put up a link of brands of food people have found good, mine have dry and fresh chicken because they have no sensitivity too chicken or fish but it really is down too each owner and dog people have so many different views on here, some staffies are prone too allergies skin etc or sensitivity, but if tyke isn,t stick too the food your trying and if he is well and eats it thats a good choice for him xx

he does have a little bit of sensitive skin that we either think is food or wash powders etc and the vet said it was trial and error. i think she sent me the link last night. Am going to have a shop around and see which is the best as do not know which to get as a specific weight loss etc

I feed raw so it's a bit difficult for me to recommend one particular dry food. If I were going to feed dry I'd go for a fish based one (mainly because Dempsey is chicken intolerant so I have to be careful), and one with fish or meat as the first ingredient.

A light food is ok for senior dogs, but for a younger dog I'd just go for a good quality food & feed the quantities recommended for the weight you'd like your dog to be, rather than the weight he is. I know for a while he might seem a bit hungry, but if you split the food into 3 meals a day to start with he can top up his energy at regular intervals & won't miss the extra as much!

Mine happily ate Wainwrights trays and Wainwrights dry salmon n potatoe.
The trays were 65%meat content which is pretty damn good for an average brand.

I've switched my 2 to a 100%Raw diet now, which I prefer, and they do to !

iv been reading a few raw meat diet posts, this sounds very stupid but price wise how much does it cost as Knowing tyke i think he would PREFER and enjoy more of a raw meat diet which to be honest it must get boring eating the same food

If you can buy in bulk from one of the large suppliers it's very cheap! I think Ella spends about £20 amonth or something silly like that for each dog (I'm sure she'll put me right if it's more/less than that!). None of them deliver to my area so I have to buy local. I suppose I spend about £10 a week on Dempsey's from Morrisons, mainly. Lamb/pork/beef bones, beef/lamb/pork meat and some kidneys or liver a couple of times a week.

am just looking on that whichdog food and seen two that look good eden and orijen ......

I also feed Raw and I think for me it works out at about £20 a month or what makes it sound even cheaper 66p a day

One of my dogs is on Eden and Wainwrights wet! Which is roughly £50 for the dry and £20 a month for the wet

My 2 staffs are raw fed and I spent £40 at the start of December and still have just over half a chest freezer full left! Which I say will last maybe another month at least! Which is £10 per month per dog which isn't too bad at all, plus maybe an extra £10-£20 a month on some ribs/offal from Morrisons!
