Dominance
I think Moll and Watson are in the transition of establishing who is top dog. Watson tried to hump Moll, she's not in season, following this she growled at him a couple of times during the evening and he seemed very wary of her. He hasn't humped her again. Since the couple of growls things seem to have balanced out and they seem happier.
My question is if she growls or he humps again what should I do? I don't want to mess anything up if they're establishing a doggy order.
Is it normally the female that's dominant?

But my elder bitch (4 years) 'humped' Luna for a week or so, when we got her
They seem to have gotten over it now thank god

Re: Dominance
I'd step in. The odd little grumble isn't a problem & they'll sort themselves out, but humping will always cause a rucus!
It's often the female that bosses the male around, but not always.

Will do. I think the aludex washes have also made her depressed and lethargic hence not putting up with any nonsense from Watson. How would you step in say no sternly and remove said naughty dog?
Hopefully they've sorted things out - this morning they were both lying in the same bed... She had let him little madam. Its like they've both agreed she's boss if that makes sense?

Re: Dominance
I think the female is more dominant than the male Miley used to hump Dylan for the first week after we got him. She still does it every now and again.

Re: Dominance
Tommy is establishing himself as the boss with our 2 , not seen him hump her though , my OH says she has witnessed it. He did hump a boy Spaniel on the field the other day though , it is literally the 1st time I have seen him do it

Personally I step forward, right up to the dog & say something like "Oi! Enough!" or "No, leave!" and then if necessary pull the humper off!

OK, just realised what you're on about!
God, I'm slow at times!
So, to rephrase..........
"if necessary, grab hold of the dog doing the humping and take it away from the other dog!"

Re: Dominance
Humping is nearly always a dominance issue and not sexual (despite the jokes above )
As Caryll says, paraphrasing to avoid more jokes, stop the humper (by forcible removal if necessary) and tell him or her "NO".
They will settle down into a "who's boss" relationship sooner or later.
