3 year old male doesn't eat his food
My 3 yo staff won't eat his wet food but will eat hi meaty meals things
He will also happily eat my food but won't eat wet
I have changed his food to the ones he used to like
And nothing
He will eat it sometimes if u feed him not always tho
He also sometimes decide he doesn't want to eat
His meaty meals things and you have to throw them to him
Is he getting use to me feeding him
Also my other 2 females don't really eat there wet food
I think they just copied him.
Please don't say it's a twisted stomach
This has been going on for a while
All our dogs are perfectly healthy
We did have an olderstaffwith him up until may when
We had to put her down he has never really been
That interested in food unless its mine at fist I thought he was missing
Her but this didn't start till summer as it was warm we
Just thought he wasn't hungry but now I think he
Just can't be bothered
Any ideas or is he just being lazy thanks in advance

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
If he is otherwise healthy and drinking normaly he is probally just being picky. Try leaving the food down for 10-15 minutes and than removing it. Also cut down on treats. He won't let himself starve or get sick so he should eat after doing this a few times.
You could also try adding something to make the food more appealing as well

If he's healthy, he won't let himself starve. Agree with jstaff, sometimes tough love is needed. Leave his food out for a set amount of time, and if he doesn't eat it, take it away and don't give him it until it's time for his next meal.

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
He has become spoilt. You need to be firm and let food stay down for 15mins, then lift it and chuck it and nothing else including treats until the next feedign time. No treats and absolutely NO hand feeding! A dog will not starve, but they will take the easy route and why should he bother feeding himself with you will do it? lol
Hold your ground and don't let him wrap you around his little paw
Also try to train at the same time and not just set the food down. This is just too easy and a dog needs to work for their food. So try to feed after a walk, or after some training and make your dog sit and wait for food, that way they think they have earned it

Firstly, I would agree with Hayley - he's being fussy & I'm afraid you're reinforcing that. However, I'd get a vet to look him over to make sure there's nothing physically wrong that's preventing him from eating (bad gums/teeth for example).
Secondly, I'd get him off wet food completely - in fact, get all of your dogs off of wet food! It's mushy, bad for their teeth & about 80% water, so you have to feed a lot of it to get the right nutrients.
Have a look at the list of recommended dry foods and see if you can get one within your price range - gradually change the food over by mixing with their current food. Then, if they don't eat it just pick it up and give nothing at all until the next meal.

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
I agree with the posts above, sounds like he is just being a fuss pot. Wet food isn't the greatest, you may want to try something from the recommended list below, I can recommend the Barking Heads food as this is what Rocky has, we just add a little cooked, cooled chicken in with it.
If you do decide to change to a new food do so gradually mixing the new in with the old and gradually replace all the old with the new food over about a week.

Another one to add to the above list is Fishmongers Dog Food.

Would you not recommend James Wellbeloved Ocean Fish and Rice ? We had problems with digestion with Murphy and this seemed to sort him out.

Yes, James Wellbeloved is also a good, mid price food.
I think the list needs updating!

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
Funny how dogs are so much like children
My elder dog has 'gone off' her food since we got Luna (pup) and we've gone back to tough love.
She saw Luna getting treats for toilet/chewing etc and thought i'll have a bit of that!
But if she doesn't eat she doesn't get anything else until next meal time.
Firm but fare

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
He likes tuna and sardines is this dangerous seeing as he doesn't eat slot I mixed tuna with his food with a bit of pasta and he ate it so just wondered if it was safe
The tuna is in brine as he won't eat it in oil

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
I'd try him with sardines rather than tuna, but definitely not in brine, there's a very high salt content which could be harmful.
You could also try sardines in tomato sauce!

What about if I washed the tuna in brine in water first

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
Tuna isn't a good fish to feed too often. Sardines are much better.

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
yes tuna can be high in mercury so not really that good to feed often but if you really want to feed the tuna use the ones in spring water or oil.
i find sardines go down better with mine anyway tinned or fresh

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
I would only feed tuna that was a fillet. Not ever from a can.

Re: 3 year old male doesn't eat his food
I give Loki sardines in tomato sauce now and again just as a little bonus to his dry food. He LOVES it...but then, he really isn't fussy at all
