Rescues and their food

I love rescues they are needed obviously. But there are a few on my dreaded FB that have set up amazon or ebay wishlists all containing pedigree or bakers food. Not only is this food ridiculously over priced (shouldnt a rescue be trying to save money for heat and workers?) but the nutrient content vs some cheaper brands makes me wonder why they want to be using these brands? Also the e numbers, why would you want hyper active dogs in a kennel?

Then i came to the conclusion that it is because everyone is brain washed by these adverts for these dog foods and the rescues maybe think that them feeding these foods make people think they are doing an even better job?

I agree with you and it is just a reflection on their intelligence in my opinion

Is Bakers bad? Out of the ones I tried it's the one which my dog has liked the most and gave him the shiniest coat.

I's not the best , mainly due to all the additives put in it (that's why most dogs will enjoy eating it) and it can then (like kids having loads of additives) make them hyper

we will be getting some decent dry food for Miley when she has run out of the old. I think its important for dogs to have a healthy diet too

A friend was feeding bakers and thats what a vet told her.
I try and buy the best food I can afford and always read the ingredients list.
I was a bit skint last year a bought a bag of wago, on reading the ingredients only the red biscuits had meat in them and quite a low percentage, all the other biscuits in the bag had no meat content at all.

When we adopted Rocky from Woodgreen Rescue Centre he was being fed Burgees Sensitive, which I think is one of the better cheaper foods. The cheaps ones are just a complete false economy because you have feed so much of it, and it's just full of rubbish.

I have been feeding my dog (Lola) Arden Grange for quite a while now and as a dog who was recued with severe mange. Her coat looks so healthy. Funny enough I was talking to my vet theother day who had been to a seminar on nutrition. the speaker there described bakers and other brands as the equivalent as feeding your child a big mac every day. Whilst this may be an exagerated example it does highlight the rubbish that is put in the cheaper foods.
there is a very good list on this web site of quality foods which are a little more expensive. I have found that they actually last longer as you do not need to feed your dog as much.

Ledger was on Arden Grange at Dogs trust (well that was the bag of food that came with him) but they put out appeals for tinned food yes they may be the mcdonalds of the dog food world but if that means most dogs will eat them and it is cost effective for people providing donations then I don't see the problem. In fact i've just made my annual purchase of 24 tins of food and a big bag of biscuits and will be dropping it off at a rescue centre tomorrow

Its certainly not my choice after reading the reviews on here but my parents springer/collie has always been fed on Bakers she is nearly 15
