size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
hi i have two Staffords and i am new to the forum they are both brothers from same litter and from valglo lines, 30 champions in 5 gen pedigree and its was worth every penny me buying the 2 blues i have, i always wanted a good bloodline and i searched a long time untill i found valglo Neptune and the blue bouncer the best blue staffs in uk and europe. they are 4 months today and i weighed them 2months ago and pup 1 Ace was 6.7 kilos and pup 2 Axle was 5.2 kgs, i had pic of litter and picked Ace then when i went back i picked Axle as he had a nicer lighter blue colour,
Anyway i weighed them last night and now they are 4months 1day today Ace weighed a staggering 17.1kgs at 4 months his body is very Wide hes only 14.5inch high and his head is fullof wrinkles all over his head and under his ears his paws are huge i cant understand how he got so heavy, he is very muscular and wide but his head is smaller. hes so young the weight is way over breed standard so i done some home work and apparently valglo produce huge staffies and the head always grows last with 6-12 months and get thicker boned up to 2 years. if hes 17.1 kgs now and his head hasn't started yet what am i looking at here, does anyone know how heavy blue bouncer is cause i think he takes after him, hes a huge staffie i heard low at 15inch but very very wide with a huge head, pics dont do him justice, ok so the mum weighed 30kgs after pups and her normal weight was 34-37kgs her father is the valglo Neptune second best in uk.
so what type of staff am i going to end up with as i have never seen anything like this yet hes so heavy no fat on him i feed him mince and gilerts hypo allergenic food keeps his coat like silk. anyone know more about valglo line??????

Re: size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
30+ kilos is way too big for a stafford, especially a stafford bitch! So if you were hoping to show your pups when they are old enough, I think you'll find they will be too big for the show ring!
The Valglo lines are usually used to produce blue pups as they have strong blue lines.
You say you wanted a good bloodline, so I'm assuming you intend to breed? If so, I wouldn't use these pups for two reasons; One is that they are from bluexblue mating which can produce bad skin problems and two because they are going to be way over sized. No problem if they're just pets, but a big problem if you intend to show/breed.

Blue bouncer is a big lad indeed, nice bully look to him, no idea on weight tho.
A friend of mine has a blue bouncer sired litter due in a cpl of weeks.
Anyway, To give u a lil perspective on weights, my pup who is 8mths weighs 15kgs. 15inch tall. He's very lean and toned, his head is developing very well indeed, I'm more than happy.
I don't know but with urs it is prolly the result of line breeding. All the champs in the pedigree are they 30different ones or 30 individual ones ? With line breeding u often find the same names on the pedigree papers several times over....Line breeders breed for specific qualities.
Would love to see some pics of ur pups.

Re: size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
they are all different champions going bk to all the black valglos some that won crufts, but these are bigger again. very low to floor short thick nose and a tank body, i had a blue before and he went to 17" high and his head grew with him and didn't turn out big, and didn't have wrinkles on his head and weigh 17.1kgs at 4 months, blue bouncer is a champion winner and valglo Neptune who is the grandfather of the pups. so how were they showed which show ???

Re: size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
34 kilos is way over the weight guidelines for a stafford. The upper limit for dogs is a little over 17 kilos & for a bitch a little over 15 kilos! So she's double the male upper limit!
She is likely to pass that size on to her pups (especially as the stud is a bif dog) and the pups will also be way over sized. That's genetics, I'm afraid, not just my opinion.

Welcome to the forum
I don't see where he has said anything bad about the their breeding.. In fact the opposite, he has been talking up the breeding/Bloodlines
Regardless this forum is not the place to settle monetary debts, and if he owes you money then I suggest you take the normal course of action to reclaim it.

Re: size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
Why did you let the pups go without them being paid for ? it might have been best to make sure this guy paid up in full before he was allowed to take them, maybe there is a lesson learned here ?, i do hope though that you get your money owed to you .

What i want to know is why are they in a shed with shavings? Thats usually reserved for puppy farmers.
Also, they look huge and im going to think that the breeder breeds them to be huge, which is not what a stafford is about.

OK Toby it is not physically possible to shout in type (other than caps lock) , I was merely referring to your very indiscreet manner. We do not know the circumstances and neither are we here to resolve them. Please feel free to discuss things here but if it gets away from topic and personal then it will be locked and whoever we deem is in the wrong will be warned.
Apart from that please enjoy the forum and keep your differences away from it

If the original posters weights were correct, they are anything but true size, they are either severely obese or bigger than standard.

Seems short and stocky is the standard in the show ring .

Dan, i would remove that last bit, you cant make accusations like that on a public forum
I hate stocky ones like that. i like normal looking ones, stafs are not supposed to have the body of a bulldog.

Why not lol, they are accusing each other Its not like I wouldn't ask them to their face if I had the chance! Surely a public forum is a place for free speech...
Anyhow this is off topic....
Mate your dogs are mahoooooosive and not a great specimen of the true breed. They are however lovely looking, I can see why you were drawn to them. To the breeder... £250 for 2 pedegree staffies??? I take it that is the remainder he owes and not the full price.

According to the op the pups at 4 months were 20kilos! That isn't 'true size' stafford! The top weight according to the standard is 17 kilos, and that's full grown! Those pups, if the weight is true, are way over the standard & therefore not typical, or a good example, of the breed.

i payed 250 for lexi who was pure, kc reg, wormed etc etc, but she was also not show worthy. For blues in this climate, yes, i would have expected a MUCH higher price !!

Just because they're up for stud, or have champions in their background it doesn't mean they're any good. I could put Dempsey up for stud - he's KC reg with some of the breed's top champions in his pedigree, but he isn't a good example of the breed!

Re: size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
I may be talking out of term here, but just because valgo is a good line, some how, some where, something went wrong. The puppys a beautifull, but looking at the pic of their sire, he has a body of a bull dog. A staffy isnt like this
A problem i can see in some breeding is people think loads of champs means their getting a good dog, thats not allways true. If your fur babies are pets only, then dont worry, just enjoy them.

Got to say not my cup of tea at all , when we were looking for Tilly we went o 2 breeders with good names or popular names in the lines and the parents or what we were being told were the parents looked pretty identical to this and I found it very very off putting as I could never see how my OH or Daughter could handle one of these little tanks, they just look daunting and unhealthy in my book and I am sorry if I offend but that is my opinion

Re: size of my staff is it a worry or normal??
In my opinion they are way to "bully". Staffordshire bull terrier should be a blend of bull and terrier . I wouldnt think any one that has a basic understand of the breed standard would want to breed staff like that as they have way to much bone and too low. In my opinion if ppl keep breeding dogs like this we'll end up with bull dogs with staffie heads. Which will be the end of the true Staffordshire bull terrier. Staffordshire bull terrier sure be active and agile which overly short stocky dogs are not.
Basically leave breeding to the ppl with the breeds best interest in mind not ppl breeding for the latest fad of size or colour with no thought for the future of the breed

The bottom dog is very fat! and would be laughed out of the show ring anyway it in no way meets the standard.

eogh wrote:In my opinion they are way to "bully".
Rant over
Couldn't have said any better!

Theres no denying they are lovely dogs, any dogs a lovely dog. Even this one -
But it just annoys me when people breed outside of the standard to meet current fashions and then brainwash their puppy buyers into thinking that this is how staffs are meant to be. Like when people say 'there not proper staffords they are too small' because they are so used to seeing oversized dogs.
