please help me please
Im looking to getting a prefix name, but have to answer a lot of questions and im stuck on two, can you all please help.
Question one is.... What particular features will you require in the dog which you will mate your own bitch in order to overcome her major shortcomings?
Question 2 is ... how will you be able to predict the possibilities of an unused stud dog to provide the features you want in your pups?
See very hard please please help

Re: please help me please
1. You must look at your bitch very carefully and honestly & compare her to the breed standard. Also, look at as many championship show winning * to see how they compare to your girl. Then see what her faults are (and they all have faults - which is why you have to be honest with yourself) & say what you would look for in a stud to correct those faults.
2. This is actually the hardest one - not to answer, but to do. If you use an untried stud, you would have to look at his sire & grand sires (at least) to see what quality pups they are producing. Also, you would need to look at male siblings that may have already produced a litter.
Hope that helps. As to whether that is exactly what the KC is wanting to hear - well, you can only hope!

Re: please help me please
I think the biggest problem you have at the moment is your girl is still so young, it's almost impossible to say for sure exactly what her faults/virtues will be.

Re: please help me please
Your girl is young to be thinking of breeding, the kc just want to see you have the breeds best intrests in favour. Caryll has give you spot on advise but dont forget your health checks if she not clear by birth

Also, you shouldn't even think of breeding from her until at least her 3rd saeson, preferably not till she's 2 years old.

I know the KC sound like they're putting obstacles in your way, but it's their way of making you think about what you're doing.

Re: please help me please
A bitch (in my opinion) should have had at least 2 seasons before mating & preferably at least 2 years old. A male can be used at stud as soon as he's physically mature - with some, as young as 10 months old, but I wouldn't put a dog to stud till he was about 18 months or more(just my opionion).

Re: please help me please
I think that's a good age to start a dog at stud. I know of several that have been used very young, but I'm not really in favour of that.

Blimey, I never had to answer those questions to get my affix. Or is that for the accredited breeders scheme?

Re: please help me please
Well it can only be good for the breed! By making their requirements more stringent they can filter through the people who aren't just in it for the money!
