I cant believe it!
So I went over to my mums today for lunch, left the house about 12.45. When I got to my mums, I realised that I'd put Charlie in his crate but not locked it cos I got distracted putting Jess's coat on and then just left it. I almost had a heart attack wondering what mischief he was getting up to! I just decided not to worry about it and face it when I got home. The hubby and I got home about 6. I was sweating slightly when I opened the dining room door which joins onto the living room where Charlie's crate is, luckily I'd remembered to close that! There was a little bit of poo, a slightly chewed, empty cardboard box and a VERY excited staffy pup and that was it! That's the first time he's been left that long and I cannot believe that even tho he had the run of the living room and dining room for that long, he didnt get up to any mischief! Well done Charlie!

Re: I cant believe it!
I know! I'm glad we had a tidy up before we left and there was nothing out for him to destroy. I was dreading coming back, honestly expected to see my living room in ruins! I just cannot believe how good this pup is, I was absolutely gobsmacked when I came in and saw that all he'd done was chew the corner of a cardboard box and had a little poo. Even the poo was nowhere near as big usual so he really was trying to be good

Good stuff! I remember the first day Moo was left at home (wasn't that long ago cause she used to come to work with me) I felt sick because of the stories I have heard, especially with a new sofa! But all was fine and always has been.

Re: I cant believe it!
I've heard lots of horror stories too. But Charlie just keeps impressing me so I think I'm just gonna repay that by trusting him and see how he goes. If he goes back a step, and needs to be crated again for a while, thats fine, we'll go at his pace. But this last ten days or so, he's been an absolute angel, in and out of the house. If this is the start of how things are going to be from now on, that's fine by me!

Well I agree, but sure others won't. Moo has the run of the flat, granted I have people pop to see her a lot, but have never had any probs with mine. Now my first I did so she had to be blocked from upstairs. Just keep the training up too though, they do push boundries at any opportunity! Your all doing great

I'm constantly reinforcing the training and always will. He's doing fantastically but I'm not stupid, I know he'll have his moments!

Re: I cant believe it!
Honestly I thank my lucky stars he made it. I've looked back a couple of times on the posts when I thought I was gonna lose him. I was soooo scared for him but he's so happy and healthy now. Its awful that every other pup in his litter died, but I am so incredibly grateful that Charlie was strong enough to fight it and win. I just cannot imagine life without him now. I'm sure you feel the same about Moo, they just grab hold of your heart and dont let it go. He's my little miracle (sorry for getting so soppy, I just get choked sometimes thinking how empty my life would've been if he didnt make it)

Even in a short time they change your life immensly, Charlie pulled through and is a little so sad for the poor pups that never had a life but there was a reason why Charlie has and an amazing one at that You both have certainly had a journey together! Its great to hear your so settled

Re: I cant believe it!
Hey Mel, its only 6am here but so far, he's sleeping so being good! Lol. He was great yesterday but got attacked by a rotti. All my fault tho. I had him off lead, was talking to the owner of 3 mini dachsunds he was playing with and wasnt paying enough attention. The rotti was off lead, and Charlie trotted over to say hi. I turned around and saw him going over and called him cos I wanted to make sure it was ok with the owner but the little bugger ignored me. I started after him and nearly * myself when the rotti stiffened up and growled at him. I called him loudly and legged it over, he was about ten feet away, but the rotti jumped him and pinned him on his back. It looked like she was biting his belly and Charlie proper squealed like a pig. Me and the rotti owner got there at the same time and I grabbed Charlie and she pulled her dog off. All she said was 'she didn't mark him, lucky really cos she doesnt like puppies' and walked away! I was livid! I know I'm gonna get shot down for this, but the rotti should've either been on the lead or had a muzzle on at least because where I walk Charlie is where half the population of plymouth walk their dogs at any given time of the day and 90% of them are off lead. If you know your dog is 'doesnt like puppies' or is DA in any way, why would you have them off lead in central park where you are guaranteed to run into at least thirty dogs off lead? I know I should've been paying more attention, and I obviously need to work on Charlie recall some more cos he ignored me, but I really think if you dog is dog aggressive in any way, it should be kept on a lead or muzzled in a place where there are so many dogs off lead and taken somewhere quieter to run off lead so they dont get disturbed by, or attack other dogs. He wouldnt go near another dog after that, and I was worried he was gonna have a fear of other dogs cos of it, but luckily, right at the end of the walk, we saw the rotti he was playing with the other day and they started playing immediately. Me and his owner have arranged to meet there again today. Sorry about going completely off topic there!

Re: I cant believe it!
You must have been so scared for Charlie! I agree, if the rotti's like that & the owner knows it, then she should've been on a lead. So glad he's ok though.

Re: I cant believe it!
Well done Charlie!!!!
Poor thing hope he forgets about it and moves on. Blue is aggressive which can be a pain as he would have so much more fun with other dogs if he learn't not to attack...........but do you know what I do.....I keep him on a bloody lead.

Re: I cant believe it!
That is because you're a responsible owner! I know that all dogs need to run and be free sometimes, even dog aggressive ones, but they should be taken to a quiet place where there are no other dogs around for their off leash exercise. I was absolutely fuming cos on the way back around the loop, we crossed paths again and the rottie was STILL off the lead! She said 'oh he took one look at her and ran off, didnt come over this time did he' I was a little rude because I was in shock when the rottie jumped Charlie and didnt say anything to her but when she said that, I said 'I * wonder why?!' then told her that she needed to keep her dog on a lead in case a pup got badly hurt. She just stuck her nose in the air, called her dog and walked off with her STILL off lead! Grrr!
