i want another pup

hiya all,
am i mad i want another pup jes is 5 months now and was thinking of a play mate for her, or going rspca to see if there any staffy dog there.. but im abit weary of rescue dog as u dont know what sort of life they have had. but they are so many staffy now in rescues place i feel sorry for them proberly want to bring them all home i know jess is ok with other dogs too she plays with next door dog and its a massive its a labadoodle (sorry about spelling) lol.

Two pups together are hard to handle. I think it's best to wait for a 2 year age gap at least. We would like a second as well but are waiting until Suki is completly trained so she can set a good example

I know it's really tempting, but I'd wait for a year or so as well.

You must be crazy Steffi is 5 months old also and another pup is the last thing I'm thinking about at the moment, she is hard enough work

Agree with Kylie, Loki's just started his teenage phase. To add a biting, chewing puppy to that would be insanity . In all seriousness, I'd love another dog as well as Loki, but it is best to wait until your puppy is more mature and well-behaved on her own, and then add a new dog into the home.

I agree with those above saying hang on a while. I too would love another but its best to wait until your 5 month old is a little older and more able to cope with a younger dog around. I know you would want Jess to be a great role model and that will happen in time.

I got Laska when Marley was 10 months and although I dont regret it I would never do it again. Its very hard with two puppies at different stages of development with different needs and it runs you wragged. If i'm honest there were a few times when I sat down at night and thought what the hell have I done? I love them both to bits and def wouldnt be without either of them though.

Haha... we can all understand your impatience to get a puppy or young doggy mate for your Jess to play with but it can get to be abit of a handful an i am really glad we waited till Inca was around 18 mnths old before getting Sky who was 8 or 9 wks old..

What i would like to add is... its the best thing i could have done as even though they are both girls, they absolutely LUV each other an Sky learnt alot from watching Inca (like where to toilet in the garden- how to sit an wait nicely for their breakfast/tea- what to do when she meets other dogs) They both spends hours cleaning each others ears/eyes/heads and you can see Inca is Skys security blanket haha !!

My boys 14 months and I got a pup last week and its absolutely murder I wish I had waited till Bailey was out the puppy stage haha! I cant even imagine having another pup along with a 5 month old

We got our Pup when Diesel was 12mths.

The first 3mths were shitee!!! I regretted getting Tank, never ecpect ur 2nd dog to be like the first !
It literally is twice the mess, food, shouting!! And love.

I think waiting until nearer a year old would be better, ideally u want ur current staffy to be a well behaved role model for a new pup c

Totally agree with this Bailey was an absolute angel compared to Sierra Shes such a terrible biter haha, puppy needle teeth right through my finger

Great to have 2 dogs if you can afford the costs and if you have the time , it's not twice as much work apart from the clear cut factors like pooing and stuff as they do occupy each other as long as they get along.
However, as everyone else has said you really need to get a bigger age gap than 5 months and if I was asked again I would probably have waited to get 3 years between them.
2 dogs is a big expense as well for insurance , accessories, feeding etc.

Ah, I'm different. I totally get your wishing for another. It is exponential work though. I have three for the same reason but I rescued the second and third and they were a little older. Did two pups a number of years ago and it was much more difficult to do training but it did help with them tiring each other out.

haha thanxs every one yeh your all right and im going to wait till she older. bet it like having starting again with a newborn lol. and ive justed remebered jess howling at night and keeping us awake lol

It's easy to want a new pup just as the house training and sleepless nights are sorted! I got Lola when Lily was about 15 months. Lola was 6 months when I got her so was out the puppy stage. It's double the dirty pawprints and full poop bags but double the fun!

Mine didn't manifest itself until I retire at 65 and decided to get a staffy. But at least I can put mine down to dementia
