fireworks - First fireworks experience Empty First fireworks experience

This is the first firework season we have had Densil - he is 4 now, so has had 3 season's in his previous life. As we didn't know how he would react I followed all the hints/tips. I built a den around his bed about a week before. We drew the curtains, tv up loud, acted normal etc. Took him for a long walk in the morning (rained rest of day and he will not go out in the rain, so played games in afternoon to tire him out).

We found out he is a "barker". He was running around like a lunatic barking at the fireworks and wouldn't calm down. Den didn't work so scrapped that one. Tonight will be night 3 and then hopefully it will be all over until Christmas/New Year (we get an awful lot of fireworks where we live).

It's awful when they react badly to fireworks. You just don't know what to do for the best.

Have you thought about Adaptil?

Yep - sprayed all the bedding today, but didn't make any difference - it hasn't worked with his anxiety in the car either - waste of money. Tonight he has gone through 3 kongs - I'm stuffing them and freezing them as fast as I can, lol. I've also been blowing the bacon bubbles I bought - but these are rubbish I can only get 1 or 2 at a time, the mixture seems very thin and liquify so shan't buy any more of this. I've also let him have a tennis ball which he wrecked in about 2 minutes. Fireworks still going off. Problem is with all that food he'll want to go out and get rid of it? Anyway hopefully he'll tire himself out soon.

Signed two petitions yesterday to ban public use of them. Thing is it never seems to change the law, I have always hated fireworks for various reasons including the obvious noise (I suffer from noise anxiety however I am having to be relaxed for Dex who thankfully isn't too bothered by them but don't want to risk him picking up on any stress from me so I've a glass of wine and my headphones in at the mo!) I really wish something would change!
