Do you guys walk your dogs in the evenings around firework season? Just went to take Bis out but they're going off constantly and she's gotten herself into a right mess so thinking of leaving it til really late.. they're even setting them off during the day!! Pointless?!

Isn't it annoying! angry

I've had 3 dogs that were terrified of fireworks, and it breaks your heart because you can't tell them there's nothing to be scared of. Sad

I used to try taking them out when it was a bit quieter, so early morning & mid afternoon, with a short late night walk. All on lead just in case they got spooked.

Thankfully Dempsey doesn't pay any attention to them.

Thankfully they don't bother Moo now, and sadly it would seem however late or early they go off for the next 2 months at least constantly. TBH I tend not to walk Moo after dark if I can help it, a quick round the block and hats it Xx

REALLY annoying! Sad Ah, glad your two are good with them, bless them! Bis will bark and growl in the house but soon settle down, outside it's a different story. She is much better, when I first got her she used to either try to dart into the road when they went off or attack cars Rolling Eyes She's not as intense now but still gets pretty insane, she's all hidden under her blanket with her eyes closed as tight as they can be!!

Biscuit's main walk when I'm working is in the evenings so can't really avoid it! Think I might just play some games in the house and tire her out that way for tonight..

I'm not particularly keen either, my dad's lurchers will lie next to a bonfire and happily watch them though Laughing they're used to gun shots though I guess so don't get spooked quite so easily..

Never used to bother me until I had Ouzo (GSD x Rough Collie) - he was terrified! He was a really big dog, and a nightmare to control when fireworks were going off.

I've got a valerian, vetivert and sage spray but not sure that it will be strong enough, not keen on zylkene but might pinch a DAP collar from work.. no harm in trying it I guess!

Ah jeez I can imagine, did you ever manage to desensitize him? Sounds like a lovely mix Love Struck

Laughing you make me giggle! We strangely had a load of out of date ones donated to work today with a note saying that they're safe so could give one a go.. if she starts walking backwards and making chicken sounds I'll know why! She's going to doped to the eyeballs with magical calming stuff!

Neither of them are scared of them, but Chance is a bit neurotic and HAS to find where the noise is coming from, so as daft as it sounds, we do our normal walk in the dark and he can SEE the fireworks then he is fine.

Nope. No-one's been setting off fireworks much round here now, but they were setting them off at people randomly and Loki got a bit scared (so did I, admittedly Laughing) so I've been walking him during the light hours until after the firework mania has gone down.

Tried walking Ledger before it got dark tonight and a few were being set off he turned around and pulled home thankfully it was all quiet when we went out about 7pm but 2 lads did shout across the road to me 'trick or treat' cheeky beggars 24 hours early and not even an attempt at costumes!

Ours aren't too bad. I try to desensitise them to it when they are young cus my childhood dog was terrified of storms and fireworks and would hide in the corner shaking. Its so horrible to not be able to tell them not to be frightened, you feel so helpless!

So far so good with Percy, we have seen/heard a few on recent evening walks....Percy has just carried on regardless. But we live on an army garrison, so it's normal to hear gun shots when we're out walking so maybe that has made him used to the bangs.

We've not had many fireworks round here yet so I don't know how Maddie will be. One of the dogs we had growing up was terrified of fireworks, and used to get herself into a dreadful state (she was a nervous dog anyway, poor girl).

Someone on a FB group I am part of has started this if anyone is interested in signing:

Max isn't a happy boy tonight. Hubby took him for a walk yesterday at around dusk, thinking that no (or not many) fireworks would go off at that time, but when did.... he shot under a parked car.

Tonight he's not happy at all. He's just curled up on my lap and every time a loud firework goes off, he pulls in tighter to me. Bless him Straight Face

Poor thing. I've tried to persuade him to go out to "make water" but he's too scared to go anywhere near the back door when it's open. I've tried to entice him with a little smidge of peanut butter on my finger which he enjoyed but when he realised what was happening, he backed away back into the comfort of the brightly lit kitchen. I tried all ways to coax him but nothing doing...

Oh bless him Sad Do they tend to go on all night where you are? The last few nights they have stopped at around 11pm and she'll just hold it until then.. or she'll run out as fast as she can and then back in again!! Has he always been like it? This is my first proper year with Biscuit.. but the last small firework session she heard she tried to jump out of the window(!) so I started to noise desensitize her, but didn't get far enough with it by bonfire night!!

We have to do it like this because I'm not always at home and don't want them to get used to a late night walk so for daughters and OH's safety last walk is at dusk (I would probably be too drunk anyway)

Well, they seem to be going off in the distance rather in the field right behind us now so that's a positive thing but he's not interested in going out (although I suspect he's probably bursting). I'll leave it until around 11 as that's the time he usually goes to bed anyway - after a quick check on his world outside and tending to business - hopefully his routine will be ok providing the numpties that are still setting them off pack it up for the night, sigh ...
