Evening Guys

Im at my wits end .......... I know this site and this thread is for Staffy pups but I really need help

Kai my 5yr old dogAs some of you know he is big and pulls,I bought him a Canny leader he don't like it that much, but is getting used to it.

Saturday when I was taking them for a long walk, he slipped out of it,totally Surprised I told him to sit and when I went to put it back on,he growled and me a showed his teeth, which really upset me,shoe I shouted at him.

Tonight I took them out again, he was fine for a bit and then done the same thing again and also cocked his leg up and totally wee'd up my leg

Iam totally, shocked, upset and angry and it is making me not want to take him out anymore.

Bella is totally amazing on and off the lead

I really dont know what to do anymore Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Well first I don't have any issues with growling or anything when putting back on lead. It's a little difficult for me but Tommy has always been very good and followed Tilly around , gets a little stupid sometimes if they have been on lead for a while and has a little poke at Tilly but nipped in the bud straight away.
How is Bella with him generally , does she bother him a lot whilst they are out ?? Have you tried walking him on his own and seen if there is any difference ?? You could also try walking with someone else to keep them both occupied ??

I'm very sorry I cannot help you as I have only ever had one dog at a time. Dave has given you some very advice above though and I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to help further.

I'd sugest getting a double ended training lead, use the canny collar and an ordinary collar or harness. Clip one end of the lead to the canny collar & the other end of the lead to the ordinary collar/harness.

If he slips the canny collar you still have control & you don't need to panic about putting it back on - just carry on with the collar/harness, do a few simple obedience exercises with him & then slip the canny back on.

I think you probably need to step up the training for Kai a bit - he's starting to take advantage of you! During every walk, do a spot of training - heel work, sit, stay, down. Anything to keep his mind on you. When you walk, go as fast as Bella can go so that Kai doesn't have time to think of things to do on his own! Take treats with you so that he feels rewarded for doing what you want.

We have two dogs, when we got Molly our springer started acting up and actually growled at several dogs, totally out of character and only started after getting our new pup. He was also less responsive with general commands. Pretty bad all in all. We asked our trainer and she said it was really important to start taking them out separately and training separately so they reestablish the bond with you. With our two it does seem to have worked, Molly is now 6 months. I do feel a slave to my dear darlings sometimes Wink

And have you reintroduced them to walking together now or still separately ?? It would be a nightmare for us. We did split them up when Tommy was a bit younger sometimes to make sure Tilly got enough decent walks but Tommy has always walked with Tilly when he was out , just took Tilly for a bit longer after. These days though unless they are being really naughty they go everywhere together

We walked them seperately for all of their walks for about a week then seperately for one of the two walks daily for a couple of weeks. Now they always go together but very occasionally we will take them out by themselves. They're best of friends and cuddle up together.

We walked them individually mainly due to Watson ,who's training was slipping and becoming slightly aggresive with other dogs. I also wanted to take them seperately so that Moll didn't become solely dependant on Watson being their. Initially when we took her out without him she was really nervous.

Now we have two dogs that are both back on track! I can really empathise with the stress that comes when one dog goes a little naughty (when he was really good prior to new pup!). Watson is back to himself with other dogs and friendly and not worrying so much about being overly protective.

Walking them recently Molly barked once at two huuugggggggggeeee briards in passing, I don't think she expected them to bark so loudly back! She was hiding behind my legs but watson didn't try and intervene.

Arhhhh dogs!

Thank you guys for all of your advise.
so this morning I took Bella out on her own for just 10 mins because I have to go to work, she was great as always, as soon as I shut the front door Kai was howling and crying really bad, and when I got in he had peed up my table and raidiater cover and done a big poo in the front roon, which he never does, he shot out into the garden like a bat out of hell cos he knew what he had done was wrong,

so I feel like crying, I just wanna give up Im sorry if you t hink Im feeling sorry for myself, but I love both my dogs to bits, but I feel soooooooooooo stressed with them at the moment

On the plus side I dont know what I would do with your advise, this site is my lifeline xx
