Licking - advice needed
Hi all,
Molly licks your face and neck when she's excited but the problem is she then nips occasionally with her little front teeth!
My partner wants us to stop her licking faces full stop but (ickily for some) I dont mind her licking my face! How do we teach her when shes excited that licking is okay but the little nips aren't? Do you think its a remnant of teething still? Shes only just 6 months.
Any advice would be fantastic

I hate Moo licking my face (personal choice) but when she does get the odd lick in there is also a nibble, just stop it before she starts

I think she is just over-excited at only 6 months old. If she nips just give a high-pitched yelp and LEAVE HER for a minute or so. She'll soon learn than nipping will stop all play (it's what her mum and siblings do in the nest).

agreed , we can now reliably know that Tommy will lick but not nip by following the tips here

I know what you mean, luckily we just get the licks without the nibbles. Just try to turn your back when the nibbling starts, see how it goes.

I call my boy Tank my lil pirahna ! He does the same, lick lick, nibble ! He's on a learning curve and after the 'ouch' we do he stops dead then gently licks... So we are getting there, obviously it's a puppy thing x

agree, Callie is still very licky but never nips anymore (and was quite nippy in the beginning). I think it took until about 6 months.

Our Molly did the same. She just got over excited as they do. When the first nip came I lifted her and put her out of the room for a few minutes. Then back in and repeated the process if nessecary. This breed is a very intelligent breed and it does not take them long in working us out!!

Re: Licking - advice needed
First few days Beryl was home she nipped at me ( luckly not my daughter or anyone else) so I rang the rescue home behaviourist and they said it was a bit like a teenager testing the boundaries to see if they could challenge you to become top dog.
She recommended putting her in time out when it happened, I put her in the front passage way for a few minutes and after a couple of times she'd come out and show me her belly.
3 Days on she still tries to go for the occasional face lick but fingers crossed no nipping ( and even the face lick attempts are getting less)
Good luck
