Help!!
Well Marley is now a very healthy and lively 8 week old puppy, we had him on fish 4 dogs small puppy complete mix but last week i noticed when eating i could no longer hear him crunching and noticed he was swallowing it whole so as his food was running out i decided to order the large puppy complete from f4d which arrived today, then suprisingly being told by my hubby that at lunch time he still swallowed it whole and was then sick so i suggested giving him a smaller amount for his tea then he could have a bit more later although he hasnt been sick he is still not chewing his food and just swallowing it whole!
Has anyone else had this problem or any one got any good advice for this problem as im worried he will do some damage stomach wise

Re: Help!!
It won't damage his stomach, but if he's eating too fast it could give him wind & make him uncomfortable.
You could try mixing in a small amount of wet food so that he has to pick the food out a bit more carefully!

Re: Help!!
Swallowing whole isnt so much an issue as even if you gave them it in one big lump they would bite off bits big enough to swallow. Quantity and the speed in which they eat it is key. You may have to fit in an extra meal time and spread the ammount out for a little while to stop the throwing up.

Re: Help!!
I'd try going on to 5 meals, spread out evenly throughout the day. At only 8 weeks, he should really still be on 4 meals a day anyway.
Hopefully, by spreading it out, he'll never actually feel starving so won't need to bolt the food down quite so quickly! It might take a day or two to actually take effect, though.

Re: Help!!
I personally wouldn't start adding extras to it they scoff far more quickly. I would also be inclined to split the meals into 4 and also try and fit in calm time before & after meal times Xx

Re: Help!!
A tennis ball in his bowl should slow him down a little, or you could feed out of a kong

Re: Help!!
They have bowls designed to make dogs slow down on eating, but jstaff's tennis ball idea is cheaper.

Re: Help!!
Caryl and janey best advice imo, exactley how i fed marley and laska i keep my dogs lean. Just remember to never free feed as that will undermine you like nothing else mate.
