peeing when people come to visit
so Jelly gets REALLY excited anyway when the kids and my husband come home, but the last two times we have had people over, she gets way excited and she has peed on the floor, center stage, both times. She also gets very mouthy, when normally she has stopped even mouthing. I tried putting her in time out, put bitter apple on my hands before letting her back in the room so she would stop mouthing, and that's when she went right for the center of the room to pee. help please?

If you know visitors are coming over could you keep her onlead, she is just over excited, let her calm and even pop her outside, its a phase and won't last forever Xx

Re: peeing when people come to visit
greeting people on the lead firstly for visitors, with Tilly she would get like this when I came home so a quick greet and then outside to calm and have a wee and then back in, stretching this out we now kave her wait until I get out of my shirt and trousers if I've been to a business meeting , then she knows as soon as my jeans go on its playtime

Re: peeing when people come to visit
OK - we did keep her in the other room while we ate and she was totally fine. didn't even try to pull apart the rug which she had been doing but that has stopped. then when we all came into the room where she was, she started jumping up and mouthing and was out of control. guest left, so she went straight to her bed and has been fine since.
I was thinking we could put her in her kennel her as well, but I don't want her to think we are punishing her. We did it last time, after she peed but not \as a punishment in response to the peeing. She was fine after that.
the only trouble with outside is she barks or other dogs bark and she barks back and it gets a bit loud out there. I don't want the neighbors to complain. but that even stops at some point and they all have dogs obviously if there's a lot of barking so i guess it shouldn't be a problem, thinking that through.

definoitely greeting guests on lead , any over excitement has to be ignored and all visitors should be on side with this

Re: peeing when people come to visit
If you're guests have treats as well and you work on the sit and calm before getting the treat this will help too , it's just more onus on your guests though

Re: peeing when people come to visit
Putting her outside will only mask the problem, not solve it & she'll just get even more excited because she can't join in.
Like already sugested, I'd put her on a lead when guests come round, make sure they all have treats & only let her have one when she is sitting nice & calmly.

Re: peeing when people come to visit
My girl Diesel does this.
But it's controlled by A. Getting her to pee before visitors arrive.
B. Telling the visitors to ignore her (best method) until she is invited to greet when shes calm.
C. 60% if the time she will stay in her bed until visitor has gone. Her bed is in the lounge but she does as she's told and will stay in bed.
Overall she's a silly staffy and if allowed will go batshit crazy hyper on ppl and super submissive. Control is key.
On the flipside, Tank dosent give a monkeys who comes round, quick glance and he goes bk to doing whatever hes doing !!! One extreme to the other with my 2 lol x

That's what I thought too Caryll, my husband had suggested that too and I think we need to work it through so she knows what to do - we won't always be able to pop her outside.
The lead, treats... all good.
We did have her doing tricks at first when they first arrived, then we ate dinner and it was after that she went nuts then. Weird. I figured she was over it.

Agree to keep her on lead and let the guests feed treats. It's a phase they will grow out of.

Re: peeing when people come to visit
I really hope so! Her Mom and Dad were pretty jumpy when I met them, but I don't think they were very well trained and sort of has free reign in the house. I remember when we went to get her, she was the last puppy left and she was there with her Mom and Dad trying to jump up with the big dogs, and kept getting swept underfoot. It was really really cute, her little tummy all stretched out trying to get as tall and high up as they were
Not so cute anymore, now that she's a 16 kg beast!!
