Insurance
I am trying to consider all things and plan properly before I get my dog however, I have recently had a few chats with various people and I am told that I will need to get insurance for my dog? This is something I hadn't considered or accounted for? Is Insurance recommended and does anyone know any good insurers to look at?

Re: Insurance
Insurance is invaluable asthey can run bills up very quickly if you're unlucky , however saying that we had a claim when Tilly was about 10/11 weeks and hurt her back leg and nothing since.
I'm with Pets at Home after moving from Direct Line last year but the PAH policy has change a little now and not quite as good so can't come up with the best recomendation for you

Re: Insurance
One thing you have to be aware of nowadays is the cost of veterinary treatment - it's colossal!
Some people prefer to put away a certain amount a month into a seperate account to pay for any vet fees, some prefer to get insurance.
I'm in the lattaer category - and I'm glad of it! In Dempsey's 3 short years so far he's cost in the region of £5500 in vets fees, of which I've only paid about £200 excess. I also think it's important to have 3rd party liability cover. Some household insurances will cover a dog for 3rd party damage/injury but not all.
I started off with M & S (good, but doubled the premium on renewal so I changed) and Sainsburys. I've no complaints with Sainsburys & have recently renewed with them for a second year.
If you do get insurance, look for one that gives you lifetime cover per condition, not one that only covers each condition for one year.

I've got insurance with More Than which includes life time cover, they pay the vets directly and a whole other list of benefits. Currently paying £13 a month.

More Than for an EBT was a horrendous price! Just goes to show it's worth shopping around!

Insurance is a very good idea. It gives you peace of mind and ensures your dog will be taken care of

That's odd, I thought it would have been the same for a SBT and a EBT. I shopped around for days and found it was the cheapest for me.

Not for what I wanted - I wanted the top cover because EBTs are known to eat things they shouldn't & therefore have more risk of surgery.

That's what I've got though? The best one they offer

Re: Insurance
I got insurance for Sash as soon as i brought her home. Went onto comparethemarket website and found that Animal Friends were the cheapest. We pay £5.60 a month pet insurance for Sasha.

My staff is with John Lewis's... my Collie is with More than,... shop around.. be aware to that most policies you can't claim in the first 4 weeks. But i've always had my dog's insured and the peace of mind has been worth every penny.
