Lola hates little yappy bitches!
Please help anyone? Lola is a lovely, sweet girl but she hates some dogs especially little, yappy bitches. When she was little her sister Lily was attacked by a Jack Russell and \i think she was traumatised. I had her on her lead the other week when a loose Jack Russell ran up and Lola attacked it. I had to remove its back leg from her mouth! she was really savage I was shocked. Lily would never do this. Lola will strain at the lead at little bitches now, dogs are fine. She lives with 4 cats so isn't vicious, please help x

No Caryll, I was that much in shock the owner was screaming 'get her off' and I was stood like a doofus in shock! Took me a while to get Lola off! Come to think of it she grabbed a Pugs leg when she was little> i got Lola at 24 weeks and she had never been out the house even back garden! She had only socialised with her family x

Have you taught her the 'watch' command? If so, then when you see a dog coming up to you & you're not sure about it, tell her to 'watch' you & make sure you have a treat to get her attention. After a while she'll associate other dogs with her getting a treat & hopefully she'll be a bit better.
However, a word of warning, some staffords are dog aggressive, and nothing you can do will change it - you just have to be totally aware & read your dog's body language.

I would keep her on lead and use the watch command around the smaller dogs.

You can't stop loose dogs from running up to her, mainly because other owners don't have any control over their dogs, I have had a lot of problems in the past with loose dogs running up to mine. Also many JRTs will attack another dog when they run up to them so it may not have been her fault.
When a dog is on a lead they have to stand and fight because they can't run away, this may have had something to do with it as well, if she had been able to run she may not have had a fight.
If I see a dog running up to mine I shout to the owner to call their dog, if they don't or the dog ignores them I tell them that they will be responsible for any vet bills, for my dog as well as their's. That usually gets them moving to get their dog back.
Your dog is on the lead and under control, their dog is off lead and out of control, any problems you are clear even if your dog SEEMED to attack first, we don't understand what dogs are saying to each other.
I stopped a Staffy attacking Cyril a few weeks ago by putting treats in front of her, sometimes if you can throw high reward treats in front of the dog racing towards you it can stop the dog.
What has worked for some pleople I know, their dog has a coat on saying "Dog in Training", people usually keep their dogs away but not many ask why, when they do they are told "I am training my dog not to attack other dog", that gets the message home, but you can't cure stupid, many dog owners are just stupid.
What does get me is when an owner says "My dog is friendly", my dog is not and it is your responsibilty to make sure your dog is safe not mine.
It has happened, you can't go back and handle it differently but you can learn from what happened.
You can help Lola but first her stress levels need to go back down, that would have stressed her as well as the other dog.

Re: Lola hates little yappy bitches!
It really is daft dog owners who let their dogs run free when they are not fit to be running free , my neighbours are such people eg their Jack Russell dug under their fence whilst they were out shopping he made his way into a garden half a mile away where he was confronted by a rottweiler the Rotty bit him on the back and opened up a wound , who did my neighbours blame the rotty of course , thankfully they reported the incident to the RSPCA who gathered the facts then gave my neighbours a dressing down and rightly so , as i say it's daft dog owners not you or your dog who was being protective of you in my opinion .
