moving on to a big girl bed lol
Jelly is housetrained now and we have caved and started letting her on the sofas with us or on her own to sleep. We'd rather she didn't ALL the time though, so we got her a real big dog bed. My baby is growing up LOL
I think we'll keep the crate around for her for a bit and she how she goes. We still don't leave her on her own outside her crate 100% as well, only now and then, because we don't FULLY trust her on her own with run of her room, so we'll pop her in the crate if we go out for dinner or what have you. Otherwise, I'll be curious to see how she does with her new bed, and if she'll think it's a meal or not. Let's hope not.
She was so cute yesterday at Pets at Home testing out different beds, she got in them if she liked them and cuddled in and looked up at us so earnestly, like taking your kids shopping for their school shoes. Such a little sweetheart

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
Every dog I've ever had has had the following rules imposed...
No begging
No getting up on the furniture
No getting up on the beds
No sweets/biscuits etc
All four have lastest....3 minutes!

Hahaha! I said no sofa, no bed, no human food.
Whatever.
The only thing Ralph isn't doing is getting on the bed - and that's only because he won't! I lift him up there and try and tempt him to have a cuddle, but he just gets down and goes off downstairs to get on the arm of the sofa!
Charming!

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
the arm of the sofa! LOL they are so funny!
we are resisting the bed, mainly because that's the cats' last refuge. we don't see them much these days but at least they sleep with us at night. so i figure she'll get my step-son's bed sooner or later. hahaha we already march her in there when they're here each weekend and plunk her on his bed so he and his sister can get loads of licks and cuddles
we did come dangerously close while on vacation two weeks ago to letting her on our bed. She had free reign in the hotel room to hang out on the bed, but she still had to go to her crate for sleeping.
she's only 7 months old. let's check back this time next year and see who's sleeping where > LOL

You have to laugh dont you,
When we first Rocky we said, no going on the bed and no going on the sofa which lasted about a week or two so we did really well
I hope Jelly gets used to her new bed

Oh nooooo!
We get our puppy 3 weeks today and I've been reading this forum for weeks, read a book on dog training + a book specifically on staffies and explained the ground rules and why to my wife.
How long do you give us????

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
LOL - well, Reuben, we made it just over 4 months until we caved on her getting up on the sofas. Judging by the responses here, I'm pretty darn proud of ourselves! I imagine it's a pretty slippery slope from here though haha
Human food... forget it. That went out the window within hours of her being home. She was a fussy little piggy at first, so to get her to eat we just HAD to do something LOL We are total suckers.
Surprisingly she is still a well-behaved dog for the most part, and she's learning "our" rules, which works for us. As long as she is well-socialized and adorable, we're happy

Makes sense At the end of the day they are first and foremost pets, and as long as they respect and adhere to the boundaries that work for you everyone's happy.
She's lovely by the way

Glad were not the only ones who had all these wonderful ideas in our heads about 'no sofa' 'no human food' hahaha, we lasted about 3 hours with the sofa rule....but I love my snuggles of the sofa with Percy x

Glad to hear she is doing so well. I think most of us give up on the no furniture rule.

Me too looked in on Tommy last night on Jen's bed loads of space at the bottom and he was doing this funny little dead fly squirm thing all over the bottom of the bed just getting comfy whilst he was still sleeping

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
thanks Jstaff, she's doing really well, no more shaking
Jelly actually jumped up onto our bed last night when we brought her to our room where her "sleepies" kennel is. she finally got up the courage to make the jump (it's a fairly high-igh bed frame) and then went straight for my pile of pillows, curled up and was very hard to budge. but she did sleep in her kennel last night. i really do want that to continue if she'll sleep in our room, i need my cat cuddles too

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
We stuck to him not going on our bed to sleep, however when my OH gets up for work at 6.30 vinnie comes in bed with me for an hour before we get up. He's always been allowed on the sofa and luckily he has never been to the toilet on it, only ever the floor - hes been really good.
We dont give him human food apart from things like chicken, potato, rice etc hes never had biscuits/chocolate all that bad stuff so were doing good so far !

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
well the bed has arrived and it lasted about 4 minutes before she chewed a hole in the bottom. Caught it in time, and I'm getting her to understand it's not for chewing but we'll see...

Re: moving on to a big girl bed lol
Daisy isn't allowed upstairs, but she's allowed on the sofa when invited*. She doesnt have human food unless it has been bought specifically for her needs or a treat. She does have plenty of doggy treats though.
*Half the time, she *invites* herself! We tried to get round this by placing one of her blankets on one settee for her to sit on without invitation. This seems to work although as the evening goes on, she spreads herself out over the rest of the sofa!
She does sit and watch us when we eat but doesnt bark or whine. I'm not sure if this is begging, I just ignore her.

Ruby isnt allowed upstairs at all, and shes carried up when its shower time (she refuses to come up at all now, as she knows the showers up there!) and shes not supposed to get on the sofa, but on the odd occassion of an evening if shes being very well behaved and calm shes invited up for snuggles. last night my husband, me and then ruby were all piled on the sofa cant beat sofa cuddles

Not sure hubby should be allowed on the settee uninvited
