I just wanted to know everyones thoughts. Myself i find it cruel perhaps even torturous in some cases and darn right unatural.
I also think people who do it and know they are causing pain - joint pain, chest pain, uncomfortable should be charged just as much as one who would cause this kind of pain to animals in any other way.

It's cruelty!

I know a lot of people think they are doing it outof kindness, or it will make theirpet love them more...but the reality is you are sending your pet to an early grave!

I love my dogs more than anything, which is why I make sure I feed them right an give them plenty of exercise!

When I got Dixie she was pushing 25kg and was really overweight, with a diet and exercise, I have got her down to the 19kg mark, which is abut right for her.

It makes me so angry when we have dogs handed over to us at wor and the dogs can hardly move or when they lay down they can't get up again cos the weight!

I wold like to know who selected spoilt & loved?!?!?

I think it's cruelty, just the same as family members who let their spouse, children etc etc eat too much.

Molly has never gone above 20kg and I intend to keep it that way, I can't stand seeing a dog overweight, they look unhappy, they look uncomfortable as well.

Absolute cruelty. Dempsey at the mo is about half a kilo overweight because he had that problem with his tail before Christmas & couldn't be excercised properly. But we're getting it down again, and even as he is, he's not obese.

From the tele programs i'v watched many owners are either obese themselves or elderly.
Most of the elderly say it's what i feed my dog as a youngen didn't do that dog any harm, but back then human food never used to be so unhealthy even chicken itself was rareity. the obese owners have the attitude this dogs gets everything they want who am i to cause it stress and tell it no to another cake or piece of chocolate.
yes actual human chocolate many of the dogs i'v seen these sizes don't live past 8-10 years from being diabetic or heart attacks or being put to sleep becasue their joints simply can not take the weight, you would never find a stray or wild dog obese i don't know how they can not realise that, their causing mental stress as well imagin not being able to do the simplest of things like sniff the rear of another dog, play another dog or human chase a cat. its cruelty plan and simple. People who are over weight know how uncomfortable it is why place that onto a beloved pet.

The weird thing is these people actually love their dogs it would break their heart to lose them and i bet the dogs are going to have some problems being taken away from their owners as well. I do think the threat should be there but also i don't those owners are going to think their dog is going to get taken off them, their never going to go to the vets their never going to be seen outside its hard but education is what is needed here rather than threats.

Those pictures are truely disgusting. I have seen fat dogs but never like that! the owners tend to get very defensive aswell if you mention their dog is a bit overweight...

Once they are desexed, its a little harder to ensure that your dogs dont pack on a few extra pounds, but the solution is nice and easy... WALK THEM PEOPLE That way not only do they NOT put on the pounds, neither do you!
