Re: NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!
Chris , please turn off your caps lock , it's rude to shout
If I'm understanding you correctly you expect your dog to sit nicely in one place whilst you get out of the car , open the fence (I assume you have a gate ??) and drive the car in to close it again.
Perhaps you could try
1) Putting the dog in the house ???
2) Securing the dog in the garden ???

Re: NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!
You can train dogs to do this but it is not recommended. A dog will only listen to you if you are there. As far as the dog is concerned as soon as you get in the car he is free to do what he wants. Perhaps buy a chain to use while you do this.

Sorry as you say Hayley a dog can be trained to do this , but security is the best way isn't it

Hi & welcome.
I agree with everyone else - for safety's sake, your dog needs to be secured. Either leave him in the house, or tie him to a stake out of harm's way.

Re: NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!
I would rather be safe than sorry. I have secured my driveway so I can open the gate and drive in and out knowing my boy is safe and not under the wheels of my rather large vehicle. Since I have done this since he first arrived and he is almost two, I know he will stay well back as a matter of habit but I am still not keen on taking that chance.

I agree with the others. It's important to remember also that at 4 months, although you ay be able to train your dog to do this, he'll be very easily distracted, and may just take off. I wouldn't expect a 4 month old pup to have that much impulse control.

Re: NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!
At this age they dont have much road sense, I would not advize the gate is left open at all. As others have said can you get the pup in the house before the gate is left open ?

Re: NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!
if you have a lot of time and years of patience maybe it's stays , for now his line to a spot in the garden.
it's a pup, never trust a puppy to stay ore listen. In house can they spot you must clearly identify, and hope that it stays in place.
and nothing get destroys , when you're away. just fore those minutes. ore put away things that means a lot to you.
good luck with the growing up, and stay thing.
