Puppies and introducing a cat... Empty Puppies and introducing a cat...

Post by Psychadelic Thu Jul 26 2012, 14:43

So my pup Oden is 4 months and little Freyja comes home in a week... I have just been told my mother plans on moving back to the family home where I live, except somewhere along the way she has adopted a Ragdoll kitten. She assumes it is around 12 - 18 months and has been abandoned by the owners. She is now trying to decide if bringing the cat back here to live would be a good idea, or if it is a silly idea to think all the animals would all get along. I have a feeling it is a little too late to introduce Oden to a cat?

Thanks in advance for your advice Smile

I dont think it would be too late if you introduced them slowely and gradually, makesure they cant be alone or out of sight if they are together though and makesure they sleep seperate! Although i read a post on here the other day of someones dog attacking and killing some of his new kittens o.O so i dont know its a bit scary lol

Yeah, I am really not sure on this one hahah. Oden is really good with other dogs and when around little dogs he bascially lets them jump all over him... But a cat is a cat and a dog is a dog thinking

maybe you should put him on a lead and tye him up somewhere in the house and let the cat (or hold the cat) walk over to him and say good boy and giv e him a treat when hes calm and nice to the cat , if he starts getting aggressive at all just turn your back and walk out with the kitty and just keep on and on doing that untill he can be trusted off lead, but still makesure they are both in your eye sight dont leave them alone together Tongues

I think its an okay time, just as said keep it so you can always watch. I would personally put up a few baby gates so the cat can easily escape if needed

I don't think 4 months is too old. Just introduce them slowly and make sure they are supervised or kept seperate when that isn't possible.
