Puppy going bald on his head
Hi my puppy Tango is going bald on his head, The rest of his body looks very healthy just his head seems to be going very bald. Doesn't scratch very often, I feed him on burns dry puppy food only. Any advice on this anyone? Thanks
Also on these pics it looks sore kind of from the light. But his skin looks the same allover his body.
He looks a bit sad on these pics because i just woke him up to take pics, He wasn't pleased lol

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
sometimes my eldest scratches her head and catches it with her dew claw which can give the effect of going bald, shes made herself sore on occasion.
but yes a pic would help. x

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
My Bailey has a slight bald patch on top of his head between his ears but the vet had a look and didn't seem to think it was anything bad, just said to keep an eye on it. He doesn't rub or scratch at it so it can't bother him!

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
would you say he's actually losing fur or it just isn't developing quickly. To be perfectly honest Tilly had this funny patch in the centre of her head at the top for months before hair actually grew there, and aven now she's always been a bit unfurry behind her ears and on her chest. As long as its not a clear patch with fur dropping out and the rest of him is clear I would just monitor for the moment to make sure it's not getting any worse. But feel free to go back to the vet and tell him you're not happy if that's how you feel.
My vet told me that he has found some staffs seem to have more fur growth than others. hence a few "thinner" spots on Tilly

Well his head seems to be growing really quick all of a sudden now. He's always been balder on his head than everywhere else. But just seems more than usual at the minute. I will take him to vet next week see what they think to it. My dads staff was the same but just behind the ears really :/ Thanks for advice

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
Hmmm can't figure out if the top of his head where he's thinking looks a bit pink or not ?
I'd take s trip to the vet OR so long as it's not bothering him and his worming/flea/vaccines are upto date then I'd watch n wait a week or so, I'd maby try a piriton tablet if it's irritating him.
Let us know how u get on, it's good to have pics u can compare !

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
I think I know what you mean by thinner patches in places. Rocky has quite thin hair on his head too in places and behind his ears (but to be honest it can appear to be thinner depending on the light we are in at the time).
It sounds like you are doing the right thing in getting checked out by the vet anyway.

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
Just looked his the white part of his chest and it looks a bit pinker than usual. Am i ok just to give him just a normal anti allergy tablet? If so how much of 1? Thanks

Yeah hes teething now, Would i need to do anything about it or would it pass in time? I give him good food and vitamins as well daily. Is it something i should be concerned about or just let it pass? Thanks

Re: Puppy going bald on his head
Normally once teething has finished the fur slowly returns. If the hair loss is just localized, then i would leave it alone but give him some evening primrose oil either in his food, or give him the capsule whole ( my lot think their sweeties lol ).
IF the fur loss is spreading then its a trip to the vets for 3 months supply of Advocate, by the end of the 2nd month on this stuff your notice very fine fur regrowth

Good advice from Denise.
CLO isn't a good thing to give long term as it's high in Vit A which can be bad for the liver, you're better off giving a fish body oil, Fish4Dogs do one - http://www.fish4dogs.com/Categories/Dog-Shop/salmon-oil-dog.aspx
