Loki Will NOT Sleep
I read that 8-week old dogs should sleep for a large portion of the day/night. This just...is not true for Loki. He's 9 weeks old now, but still, he just wouldn't go asleep at all last night. He slept at 11:30am today, played for a few hours, and still wasn't tired enough to sleep. He's asleep now, but I don't have a clue why he's having so little sleep. I was planning on waking him up in a moment and playing with him to tire him out, but god forbid I get him hyped up again.
Does anyone else have this problem with puppies that are meant to have tons of sleep, and is there anything that can be done to get them to settle down and sleep? My dad's been trying to get me to give him a bit of wine or antihistamine, but...I'm not fond of that idea

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
When you can go out for proper excersize I promise he'll calm down!
Prior to that, have you tried mind games and training, it really does help to tire the blitters out.
Good luck

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
Try to get him on a set routine so he is sleeping at the same time. If he isn't going out for walks that will help alot when you start. Mental games like seek and normal training sessions are also good for tiring them out.
I wouldn't wake him up to play though and definately no wine

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
As said above mental stimulation will tire him out quicker than anything, have you tried hiding his food around the floor for him and in things he has to work out how to open. Old egg boxes I have found are great for this. There are some good books around too, have a look for this one:

What are you feeding him? You may have said before, but I can't remember!

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
Saffy is 9 weeks and she doesn't sleep that much during the day either. Maybe 1/2 - 1hr here and there and as the days go on she is sleeping less. But she sleeps all night now.
One way to tire her out is fun training. I am teaching her commands like sit, stay, in between teaching her to fetch. Mentally she gets worn out! It's taking a little longer than my others but she's a very excitable pup.
Anything that involves using her brain will wear her out!

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
Zeus slept for ages at that age, I didn't need to tire him out much as he done that himself by wandering around the house, getting to know his surroundings. Like the previous posts state, try and get Loki into a routine. Zeus is in a really good routine now and knows when its his time to sleep/go in his crate, etc.

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
I've figured out the problem. The silly guy has the wrong sleeping pattern he doesn't really take naps much, but he sleeps from 6 or 7 pm til...well, 3 or 4 am, and then wants to play. I'll have to work on that.
Also, I do training with him everyday, as well as playing with him, practicing walking him on the lead, etc. Nothing works, he's just a cute little puppy-shaped container of energy

Re: Loki Will NOT Sleep
Just try to change his schedule a little each day and it should not be a problem. Best of luck
